Not so sure, 18 Apr 2023You know by flashing ROM you don't get extra bandwidth... moreI don't know why you get a red cross when that is the reality. I don't remember China has mmWave 5G technology, unlike USA and the EU.

Nick Tegrataker, 18 Apr 2023It's a multi-frame RAW - when you're stacking a b... moreObviously 14 bit gives more flexibility for edting. But is fact this is software based, not hardware. No "mobile cmos" has native 14bit ADC, nor 16.

Frame stacking does not add data, does not increase colour depth. It replaces some of data. Not like pixel shift when each frame becomes 1/4 of the final composition to create super resolution. This is why final file is always same resolution without need to downsize.
This feature exists years before nexus 6p. Some brands like Panny does in-body while other just save each frame to be merged on computer.

Cmos have determinated parameters that have maximum values. Some stuff is purely post processing like those extremely huge iso like 400.000, 600.000 or 1 million.

10bit ADC cannot physically output 12bit photo. It is software trick after shot is take. Same trick all use on screens except samsung and apple (probably because it increases power draining and gpu activity).
If cmos has 15 of D.R, you cant squeeze 16 out of it. You actually will never even reach this 15

Dont you agree it would be way easier and cheaper for cameras to have 10bit ADC and then provide 14/16bit RAW software based instead of sensors with fancy ADC of 16/18bit?

ADC is extremely complex component. Making it better and better is super hard and costly.
No wonder why imx509/510 alone both cost more than retail price of some full frame cameras.

Dont be surprised if this "raw" is not real raw, just like iphone . The readout decreases as colour depth increase, so sensor that is capable of doing 12MP@50fps@10bit is not gonna keep 50fps if using 12bit.

Iphone with built-in dram is not doing true raw, let alone imx989 that must have at most 1/4 of the speed at 12.5MP.
Imagine 50MP@12bit raw while doing 9-12 frames while " upscaling" to 14/16bit. 😂

Remember you swore Samsung could do raw while frame stacking 108MP ? 🤦🏻‍♂️
Do these dngs look like HDR shoots to you ? Sky says otherwise.

50MP dng of p40 pro dont look too, if you have some time to check.

Interesting google is not doing for the dng. . Just for 12.5MP jpegs. 😱
        https://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/google_pixel_7_pro_review#sample_images

But you are 10000% sure way larger/slower cmos can stack 50MP@14bit. 🤭

Everything phone makers claim you believe. 🤦🏻‍♂️

V, 18 Apr 2023Finally and finally, we have a Xiaomi smartphone with USB 3.2For what? To transfer files through usb? Or to connect a screen with a cable? Never heard of wireless transfers? They used usb 2.0 for faster +90W charging speeds, that was the reason. Now the charging speed is "only" 90W,because of USB 3.2.

Hail to the new cameram king Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

Only f/1.9 and f/4.0? I expect similar technology to Huawei's Mate 50 and P60 series primary camera. Two-stop aperture is not much different from the Sony Xperia Pro-I.

Anonymous, 18 Apr 2023"Correct" = better suited for the hardware in thi... moreYes, phones can do crazy shutter speeds because of not having a mechanical shutter. But that is not the point.

It is very difficult to make a wide aperture sharp lens. All AF wide aperture lenses which are great wide open are massive. So bringing a f1.2 into a phone would probably make the camera bump thicker than the other part of the phone.

Since phones do stacking they can easily get away with f1.8-2.0 at the widest. But since there is a size constraint, the easiest way to get sharper image is to stop down. Most compact size pancake lenses in all formats have their peak performance at around f5.6-8.

Hence my quote 'there is no correct aperture'.

The camera is surely impressive. But one thing surprised me:

"Fast Shot will then snap a photo in just 0.8s."

If 0.8s are fast, then what is the normal speed? And if I want to take a photo of a car driving by, then 0.8s are a long-time exposure, not a "Fast Shot"!

Not so sure, 18 Apr 2023You know by flashing ROM you don't get extra bandwidth... moreYeah, if in Europe it would be better to get the global variant for at least some European countries when buying an expensive phone. The Chinese variant is missing some important bands like band 20
