This is actually a good thing though, a lot of people see OLED as "the best of the best" but fully ignore it's issue.
It's not that OLED is bad, every tech has it's pros and cons, OLED has perfect contrast, IPS has good colours and you can combine it with MicroLED for best HDR experience, and stuff like VA is something phones don't really see much, so I let that one alone.
And yes IPS can have backlight bleed, but that's a bigger issue the bigger the panel is, on the other side OLED can burn in.
Every tech has it's pros and cons, but the smartphone market went a littlebit too nuts with the "every phone must have a OLED" thing, because just being OLED doesn't make it good, just like every IPS panel not being the same.
Not to mention how many people I know that stick to their older phones because PWM in OLED panels, and yes even those with 1000hz+ flickering are not fast enough for some.
Going back to IPS with MicroLED is a good thing in it's own way.

MicroLED is not backlit, as each pixel is independent from each other and self-illuminating. (Similar to OLED).
However, you're right on one thing: it IS expensive at the moment, but that will change, like all tech does as it matures and manufacturing processes become less complex and more efficient.

Don't think iPhones will switch to microLED in 2025 😂😂 wasn't 2025 the year non-Pro models will get 120Hz? I doubt that will be microLED based. 3030 at best for iPhones until then only watches & VR maybe

Upon googling all i can see is praise for microled for being more efficient, brighter, flexible, longevity compared to oled and only disadvantage is being the cost (which automatically adjust when economies of scale kick in)
But few comments here saying otherwise 👀
