The fact that they've rebadged 1080 and 1100 means that they'll continue to use these chipsets at least in the near future.

What I don't get is why Mediatek even chose to do this when they already have a clear naming scheme.

So yeah, I guess this is the closest we'll get to a bi-annual upgrade.

People will confused why 7 Gen 1's or 782G's (technically 782G is newer) successor is 7+ Gen 2 instead of 7 Gen 2 with no plus. After 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1 existed, people will think that 8 Gen 2's successor will be 8+ Gen 2. But nope, it will be 8 Gen 3.

Anonymous, 02 May 2023Apple‘s SoC naming is easier to understand than these renamingsBecause they only produced one type (flagship) chipset?

These cheater companies should be banned from industry.
Mostly Qualcomm and Mediatek, rebrands their products, makes expensiver and sells again.
                  It is just CRIME!

Many reviewers had praised their recent Lava Blaze 2. Then again it's India so people will buy phones just because it's made in India.
Although I must say, If this comes under 20k it will be an awesome deal!

How is Lava still in business, they get pretty much no exposition and seem to only sell phones in India. Quantity over quality? India is highly populated, so they can sell a ton of cheap devices I guess.

                          Dimensity 1000 uses 4 Cortex A77
                          Dimensity 1080 uses only 2 Cortex A78
A78 isn't a huge improvement over A77, both execute 6 instruction per cycle

                          Dimensity 1000 uses a 9 cores Mali G77
                          Dimensity 1080 uses a 4 cores G68
Mali G68/78 isn't a huge improvement over G57/77 all those have 32 lanes per core.
A total of 9x32=288 lanes on Dimensity 1000
                          And 4x32=128 lanes on 1080

                          Dimensity 1100 becames Dimensity 8020
                          And 1300 becames 8050.

This names are made to do something more compréhensive for customers...maybe it leads to opposite : more confusion !

Anonymous, 02 May 20236 nm? No one will buy thisWhy? 6nm is fine sized fab. Tsmc with its 4nm is actually more so a 5nm node than 4nm. At this point it just doesnt really mean anything, all nodes classification arent what they say they are (intel is changing their naming scheme for their node sizes).

And they have the 7 plus gen 2. The number 782 is higher than a 7 (plus gen 2) so after logic the first would be more powerful. But in reality the second is more than twice as powerful.
