Ultimately, I think their biggest mistake was, that they didn't attempt to make a hit with their flagship, and instead they chose a midranger.

You have no idea how refreshing it would be to live somewhere where people understand that Samsung and Apple's lack of features is completely arbitrary.

David 040882, 09 May 2023Yeah, I know that. I was asking what is it with this brand.... moreThey tried to before the Android era, but they failed. Maybe it was the love for Nokia. Nokia was almost worshipped all around the world till like 2011. By the way most of the Japanese brands are sold only in Japan, and what is really sad is the fact that most of them are no longer making phones, for example Nec, Toshiba, Panasonic, Casio(yes, they also made some nice phones), and Hitachi. Back to Sharp, maybe if they would have a good strategy they could have re-enter to the global markets immediately after the fall of Nokia, but they didn't try.

Price of base 128GB pro models is similar to what japanese brands charge for 12/256GB or even 16/512GB.

Docomo phones cost more than unlocked versions.

David 040882, 09 May 2023Yeah, I know that. I was asking what is it with this brand.... moremany factors, but sharp nowdays isnt that big company, beside that such product hardware/software support that u need to make it available for international consumer
even in japan, their market share is really low, so its tough to launch product globally

some japanese company do make phones for domestic sales only , its been like that long way back before smartphone era

beside sharp, fujitsu arrows smartphone, it also for domestic sales... in past there are panasonic, kyocera, nec, even casio tried, but most just give up to keep going in smartphone market

Both phones are very niche tho.

"There’s a 1.9MP depth sensor keeping it company but no ultrawide or telephoto lens"
WTF, Sharp? Any respect I've had for this company just evaporated. Apparently, we are back in 2015 when we slap an extra garbage sensor on a phone to show off. As a matter of fact, it's even WORSE because back in 2015 the depth sensor actually made sense, before the camera software development made it completely obsolete.

David 040882, 09 May 2023Yeah, I know that. I was asking what is it with this brand.... moreThey've already tried to release some phones globally, but they've failed with all of them and then quit almost immediately. Them seeing how their Japanese "brother" Sony is doing globally, could probably be one of their reasons not to try again.

Anonymous, 09 May 2023It does not cost more than iphone in Japan. Oh yes it cost. The R7 according to a tech site was around 1400 Dollars. I think that is very expensive for a single camera phone, unless it has a special camera design which doesn't need other lenses too(a retractable one).
