Its just a generic notched/punchole look, nothing new/innovative.

There's now two version? The R8 Pro is basically the same phone as the R7 but with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The vanilla R8 piques my interest. I don't think there are any camera sensor with 50.3MP resolution apart from the 1" IMX989. 6.4" screen and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC looks like a tempting proposition. It's just a shame that Sharp phones still remain exclusive to Japan market only.

Remember when they were innovative and didn't include hideous notches?

Literally all you have is Samsung, Google and Apple for flagship phones. And then there is only the budget, low to mid-range phones from Motorola, TCL and Samsung.

And that's it for what you can buy in physical stores. What a pity.

It's interesting to see that Sharp is trying to get away with putting a single camera (Obviously the ToF sensor doesn't count) on a flagship smartphone in 2023. I don't trust their quality control and software support so this phone would never be an option for me even if it was available in my country (and I would tell anyone I know to reconsider if they were planning to get one), but I can appreciate that Sharp is trying to put as many attractive hardware features as possible when others are trying their best to omit them (MicroSD card slot, headphone jack, Qualcomm's large ultrasonic FPS, etc).
