GAMIR3DH, 13 May 2023Confusion, people though the Wii U was an add on for the Wi... moreOne of the main reasons the Wii U failed was that lack of first-party games in the launch period. System-sellers were released too late. The Wii U was released in 2012. However, Mario Kart 8, for example, was released in 2014. Another main reason is that only a handful of Wii U games utilize the Wii U GamePad.

Which means you can tinker with its power usage, play games at lower settings to get the most of the battery life or max it out to eat the battery in 90 minutes as it was mentioned.
If it were a Nintendo product you would justify the poor battery life.

The primary purpose of both of them is to play games. And both of them can be used as handheld devices. One major difference is the battery life. The battery life is the Switch OLED is excellent. The battery life of the Asus ROG Alley is quite poor.

Daemon Targaryen, 12 May 2023Mrwhosetheboss (Arun Maini) convinced me NOT to get the ROG... moreYour first 2 paragraphs are basically stating that you prefer consoles over PC. The Ally or the Deck are not consoles, they are computers.

Mrwhosetheboss (Arun Maini) convinced me NOT to get the ROG Ally after I saw the battery fully die after 90 minutes yesterday. I also came to realize I prefer Nintendo's way of doing it. I don't have time to do all the tinkering to get the most ideal settings for each game. I want to just pick up and play. No fuss.

I guess this is cool for PC gamers who yearn for more power. Guys who don't mind jumping through a lot of hoops to get the games to play right. I'm 42-years-old. I grew up mostly with consoles and not PCs. Most of my gaming experiences comes from consoles. My favorite handheld is still my modded Vita 2000 model. The perfect size and companion to my phones.

Arun actually convinced me to get a Switch OLED instead over both a Steam Deck and ROG Ally. And I was badmouthing Nintendo all month because my Switch Lite's analog stick would refuse to stay right that I sold it 9 days ago. I hate Nintendo the evil corporation, but not the game developer. Nintendo as a game developer is arguably the GOAT.

I watched ETA's video about the Retroflag GameCube Joy-Cons for $50 on Amazon again yesterday. So much high praises for it. Watched RetroDodo and a few others. That's my solution for the Switch to get rid of stick drift/issues and also no input lag since it's not a wireless Bluetooth controller.

That's the best way playing a Switch. The d-pad looks way better than on the Switch Lite. Way more convenient for 2D fighters. Only issue is it will be bigger and heavier but the build quality seems excellent and that's the best setup to avoid drift and Bluetooth latency. Switch OLED + Retroflag GameCube controller = winner.

I guess I'm sticking to console-style handhelds. I have bad experience with Asus any way especially with battery life. My Asus Transformer tablet with Windows 8 and my Zenfone Go from 7-8 years ago would die within 12-16 hours on standby. These were both bought brand new. I haven't trusted Asus since then. I'd rather trust Valve.

The ROG Ally is already so big and heavy that you're only going to get 90 minutes gameplay from it? You're basically losing the "portability" of it by needing to charge it to a wall just to play AAA games. You might as well play it on your PC and never deal with battery life anxieties. It has the best chip + 120 Hz + 1080p. Of course it should die faster no matter what you do.

I don't believe we are there yet with PC handhelds when it comes to battery life. And Windows is still Windows. Still a resource hog sucking up all your RAM. And most of them outside the Deck and Ally still go for over $1K. ROG Ally seems like a cool device but it seems to be another "flavor of the week". There is still too much inconvenience with it. And that honeymoon phase will wear off like with every new gadget.

I'll be waiting for the Switch's successor which should already be on par to a PS4 once released within 24 months. I'm not the biggest Nintendo fan. Not since Super Nintendo. I don't really care for most of Nintendo's franchises. But the more console-style experience from their handhelds just feels right for my taste. I don't want to keep jumping through hoops just to play a game to kill 15 minutes here and there during my day.

Pick up and play. Don't think about it. Don't tinker it only to squeeze 30 minutes more of battery life. Don't jump through hoops. Don't keep recharging it. Watch that Mrwhosetheboss video from yesterday comparing ROG Ally to a Switch OLED. It really opened up my eyes how the Switch is more right for most people. Hence, the over 100M sold.
