Where is the no vote ?
As peeps use internet more on phones (replacing their PC)
they want bigger and bigger screens so companies cater for that demand
if they also made a model with small screens Reviewers on GSMArena would COMPLAIN about the tiny size !!
The newest technology filters down down to different models after a few months

Battery life a problem for high-power processor in small form factor phones unless their waistline expands?

Please, please GSMarena, do one for qwerty handsets, as well (top spec handsets).
The onscreen keyboard, blocks so much of the screen out. And its near impossible to type while walking.
And a lot of us, just simply can't get used to on screen keyboards, not on 3" and not on 5.5" screens either.
And currently, iPhone i pretty much the only phone to which you can find an accessorie like that.
Android, WP8 users are left in the dry, even BB10 users, as the qwerty model, is both far behind in specs, and is of the less practical candybar-qwerty.
I badly miss the old slideouts.
Like Omnia Pro, N900, Motorola Droid series, several of HTC models, and all the rest.
I think that actually if you check statistics, you will probably find that on average way less characters are used today when typing a text on a mobile.
We probably write more, since we are using more and more services, all close at hands, but ptobably on every single one, texts are shorter.
And with people spending less and less time in front of the computer, and instead using their cellphones for their online social networking, you never get home to the comfort of your computers qwerty and thus texts all over the web are probably shorter in general today.
And in relation to the petition for smaller top-end phones, those would really benefit from physical qwerty.
I hope, but doubt that GSMarena has time to read my comment.
If any one else does, and agree, please take chances writing about it here on GSMarena, in hopes for them to notice it, and turn it in to a topic.

Hmmm. This is an interesting petition, there are several things though:
1. Android players want to steal the cake from Apple, thus their logic will be "give more" than what iPhone can offers. With iOS' better "hardware to performance" ratio most will give screen size as competitive advantage over iPhone (and all the muscle from the processor)
2. I believe Android manufacturers are aware that there are many people who like smaller screen size; that's why there come the "mini" series like Galaxy S3 Mini. However I doubt this is what the consumer wants. I think they want a proper smaller screen size marketing.
It's about perception and marketing, having a "oh, let me buy the cheaper and slower spec of S3" or.. "hey there's a smaller new model with proper hardware" kind of thing.
Some people may found the "mini" tag as a deal-breaker.
They might think "why should I buy the cheapo of S3"
That's why I think this petition worth our attention, because in the end it will benefit the consumer again by having more choices.

Actually my Sony Xperia TX is almost what you are petitioning for. It is about 7mm taller, about 1cm wider and 1mm thicker than iP5 and comes with a nice 13MP camera and a 4.55" 720x1280 screen (higher pixel density than retina display). For me the 7mm additional height is still fine and is justified by the screen which is more than 10% bigger than iP5. For me the iP5 a bit too narrow making the phone feel lanky so the 1cm of extra width is a good thing.

don't know though,i had a galaxy s3 and went backwards.i got a Huawei ascend p1 at 4.3 inches.the handset is so compact and easy to handle,but....I missed that big screen.so went to a sony xperia tx which is 4.5 plus on screen controls which made it a 4.3 in. screen in actuality.getting a galaxy s4 and at 5in.i will draw the line.iphone screen is just too small for browsing and reading.i cant believe the iphone 4 screen when is see it @3.5 in.reminds me of a Samsung star or something.

I'd love to sign your petition, but it's forcing me to provide both my email and FULL street address... sorry I don't give out that information to random websites.
I think the petition would probably be a lot more well-received if it didn't require so much personal information.

IMHO, battery life should also be taken into consideration. Since we are asking for a more pocketable device, I think it's fair enough for it to grow a little bit in width. 8 - 10mm should be reasonable enough. Also, I don't think that quad core CPUs are necessary for this kind of phone. A top of the line dual core should suffice and just embezzle the device with top-notch characteristics like superb camera or water resistance etc. to make it worthy of mingling with the big boys. But that's just me.

With AUO Optronics 1mm bezel breakthrough it should be possible to fit a 4.7", 16:9 screen in a frame 61mm wide (i.e. the same width as the razr i). Personally if I had a phone that narrow I wouldn't mind if it was 9-10mm thick provided that extra space on the sides was used for physical buttons (play/pause, volume rocker, camera button with 2 stage press) similar to the sony ericsson w810. Reduce the space above and below the screen (especially below) but otherwise keep in line with the trends of the current flagships and you'd be very close to the perfect phone (for me).
Also I may be alone in this but as far as compact yet capable phones go the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray was truely a hidden gem. Grossly underrated for its time.

I'll just add that it doesn't need to be as thin as a piece of paper. Make it a bit thicker, and give it more battery life.
