31 May 2023
Most of that goes to Qualcomm and Samsung with the Snapdragon chipset and cellular connectivity parts being particularly pricey.

              OMG this is awful!

While I don't expect phones to cost $500, I sure as hell don't expect them to cost a lot mlre than 2 years ago, while being a lot cheaper to make. That's pure greed!

I'm really dumbfounded. And we don't even get a crappy headphone jack so I have to use the awkward flimsy dongle instead.

Unless something changes, my S23 is going to be my last Samsung.

Vegetaholic, 02 Jun 2023Lol, I mean why Samsung does not sell them for free right? ... moreWhy do you think that the point of BoM is to "explain the retail price"? It's not, and nobody said it was.

Also, nobody said that Samsung doesn't strive to make as much profit as they can - of course they do, as well as any other commercial organization on the planet. And yes, advertisement is almost always BS. So, we should apply critical thinking, ignore ads and choose wares for their usefulness and at a decent price; and try to encourage others to do the same. I mean, what else can we do, abolish capitalism (would be nice tho)?

                > "it does not cost a penny for them"

Yeah, of course, how could I forget that software engineers work for free. How do you even live if your brain produces such meaningless takes?

And delivery from factory where is made to china shops is the least expensive
Then why US which is 10 000 - 20 000 miles away speaking of California and Florida is the least expensive???

The main goal of seeling phones is to make money, do the 500 dollar price of BMO explains S23 Ultra 1300 dollar retail price, absolutely not, they definitely ripp you off and make very solid profit by charging you 1300 of it, could they still make profit if they would sell for like 899, absolutely. They make millions of them everything is streamlined, you think R&D cost and software support adds to it? Very minimal. They already have built software long ago, the only thing they do is push useless updates to add more useless features which you don't need or just to fix some bugs, it does not cost a penny for them, everything is streamlined. When you see here Mupppets commenting like they know something and saying that's just cost without marketing and R&D and so on it's all BSs. Marketing is separate department with same amount of budget every year, they will spend same amount of money if they sell 1 million S23 ultra or 50 million it all fixed cost. Bottom line Samsung makes healthy profits from Ultras as they overcharge you for every single phone they sell, and will keep doing that as people are stuupid and keep buying them no matter the price, so they will do that as long as people will buy them, simple :)

Yes i agree India had some kind of special marketing other countries did not have and did not get.
                                My main question is why?

So, should we ignore it or put it as an valid argument like you did? What do you think CptPower? :)
Why don't you try with some other examples with other countries who are not 3rd world you know?

Why these other examples werent anywhere else why only india is so special.

Like with Apple brand in USA where is cheapest even its made in china which means China should get cheapest Apple phones.
Delivery to US is very costly and take a very long time so why we have to pay less in US and more or much more in Europe, Asia, Africa etc.
                                This really makes no sense.

Anonymous, 31 May 2023You can see why they removed SD card. BOM for 1TB flash... moreCould you provide a source on the BOM of 1TB being $30?

I estimate it takes about $50 to make 1TB of flash based on 1TB SSDs costing about $50.

I'm surprised by the "memory" share. It's 11% of $469, or $52, for just 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, especially since it's coming from Samsung itself. I would've expected it to cost $20 for the RAM and $20 for the storage. I'd really like to see a further breakdown of the costs.
