- Apple Walled Garden wi... moreSame was said about that first iPhone. Too expensive ($500-$600). Looked like a toy like that first Macintosh back in 1984. Didn't have third-party apps that first full year.
Future versions of Apple's AR headset can replace entire entertainment centers in homes. Might even replace all desktop computers. Well, maybe. Can eliminate Macs. You can start gaming with these headsets while at home.
Ready Player One (2018) set in 2045 and Minority Report (2002) set in 2054 is getting closer for us. We can start waving our hands like Tom Cruise in the latter. Or Tony Stark in the MCU films.
What tech will ever replace the smartphone? Personally for some, a dumb phone. Smartphones ruined society next to the Internet.

I see people taking poses and making fake smiles and forced situations all over the place at all times with their phones, just to enjoy watching the pics or videos on their little phone screens and their friends or contacts do the same.doing that means there's an undeniable pleasure to feel part of some sort of Hollywood effect.
But from viewing a dumb pic or 2D video on a small screen to suddenly being able to see it huge AND feel part of the action AGAIN, AND in 3D, now THAT might be way more addictive, Creepy ? Compared to the selfies ? Nope, absolutely logical ? You betcha, and the illusion to actually see the face of the user looking at you instead of his/hers/their screen while taking the pic or video should feel way more inclusive, a lot less creepy in fact.

PorkHotdog, 06 Jun 2023This device is a joke. No matter how many pretty words Appl... moreBut of course, sell our souls to Meta
That’s the reason it is so much cheaper.
I hope other companies jump the ship too, NOBODY should go for the Meta one, people should even stop talking about that as a option.
But Apple is just too expensive, someone should make one with the price inbetween (not MS or Google)

Based on every tech people who had chance to test it says it's far ahead compared to anything else in the market.
Which was expected, Apple did it again, this will change everything eventually.

I agree with the article writer on all points. I would like to expand the conversation a little bit.
Similar to how I don't use headphones around people and rather speakers, so I can stay in touch with my surroundings, I wouldn't use a VR or AR headset. I will not use such 3D technology until it can be shared. I don't mean everyone wearing headsets, I mean an actual manipulatible hologram. Unlike most people, I'm very aware of my digital hygiene and spend as much time away from my phone as possible. I use it primarily for photography, videography, communication, and news. There is a very under appreciated value in the ability to put a device down whenever you choose. When it's as simple as taking it out of your pocket and leaving it on a table somewhere, it's very easy to perform a digital detox. Something attached to your face does not have that same ability. Many media figures have said things like "If humanity does not merge with technology, we will go extinct." I think that's false. Contrary to that, I think that if humanity does merge with technology, everybody's quality of life will go down, poverty will become a much bigger issue, and we're at risk of losing what little control over our world that we have today. Anyone who's ever been to the mountains knows this, in nature, technology is nothing. It doesn't matter what it does, it doesn't matter how advanced it is, it cannot compare to our natural world. If we lose our love for the beauty of our world, the world too will lose its love for us. Without farmers spending their days maintaining crops, we will starve. Without workers at the water treatment plants, we will not have clean water. This goes for many many industries. Being hooked up to technology any more than we already are will only ever hurt us. For our world to get better, we must seperate ourselves from technology, not embrace it. The smartest person in the world could be sucked into social media apps designed to be addictive. The person with the most innovative ideas could spend their days watching YouTube and scrolling TikTok. Because of the way our education systems have started teaching people, we lack innovation in key sectors. Many of the engineers designing modern devices are old. When they are no longer here, we will not be able to build new things, for we will have forgotten how to innovate. While we're already on a path towards innovation dying, everybody being strapped into a digital world will make that not only a surefire thing, but it will accelerate it. Why go to university if you can become a brand ambassador for a companies digital division, with nothing but a headset and the ability to speak English? Why become an engineer when everything your mind could possibly be interested in is at your fingertips? Why be a farmer when you can have the same experience in the comfort of your own home, with none of the discomfort? Most importantly, why try to innovate when everything you need is at your fingertips? This is the path we're on. If we continue, we will not see the bright future many of us envision. However, I hope enough of us choose not to embrace this technology that it becomes those who use it who are strange, and not those who don't. While the next 20 years could be easily envisioned as bright just last year, it's not so easy now. If everybody has what they want, then nobody gets what they need.

Early adopter product
And those have always two issues no matter who does release them.
Price
And usefulness
In 5+ years we will know how this grows.
