Sony Xperia Pro-I II might have two 1.0" Type sensors

08 June 2023
That's double the number that its predecessor fitted.

It would be a tragedy if Sony decided to equip the second 1"-sensor with a UWA lens (e.g. 16mm) as this would be a huge waste when the main WA camera lens is already at very wide-ish WA 23mm.
It would be wise to have e.g. one UWA lens (e.g. 14 mm) and set the focal length of the other lens further apart, e.g. at 35mm. Now that would be cool.

I'm not impressed with the current Pro-I's 1" camera because it only use 12MP resolution instead of the full 20MP resolution. If Sony repeat the same mistake for the new one, I'm afraid it'd be a pass for me again.

I buy every high end Sony Xperia ( serie 1). The Pro series is too expensive and for me the most important thing is sound and screen. So he's not better. On the other hand, if the Pro-I II was even 6.7" instead of 6.5" for example, I would take it!

I f*king love this, Sony is the only real brand w/ a true never settle attitude. Sony is literally everything I want in a phone brand. I just wish they bought back the Vaio subbrand to boost sales.

                I use 0.6x 1x 3x 10x. Cannot imagine just to have 2.

I heard rumours that there might be an Xperia phone with the XZ2 design. If this is the phone for it, then maybe they can also work on that AUBE fusion processor that they abandoned a long time ago.

They just dropped it without going anywhere.

Losing 8MP out of 20MP is FAR worse than 0.8MP out of 12.5MP image, to the point that such comparison is borderline meaningless.

                      2) Already addressed in my previous comment.

                      3) It sucks that there are fans who make up crap just for the sake of hyping stuff up, but that's not really new in the world of the smartphone community. In fact, I saw that rumour when P60 was released too, and immediately noticed that it was a baseless lie. Some people have been incorrectly speculating for years that Sony would make a switch to a Quad Bayer sensor until 1 V came out as well. Nevertheless, I don't think this topic is even relevant to the point that I was trying to make.

You don't understand how it works, do you? EIS relies on what the lens captures, therefore pixels outside of the image circle cannot be used for EIS. Besides, if Sony wanted to achieve better stabilisation, then they would've put a UWA lens on top of that sensor instead of a 24mm one that only covers 60% of that sensor.

"crop avoids that ugly and huge bump you see on oppo, xiaomi and vivo. Nobody at sony would allow phone with that thing."
Sony would be the last company to care about design over functionality and features, and I don't think anyone wanting to buy their phones would actually mind a large camera bump if that means they are getting better image quality.

Nick Tegrataker, 09 Jun 2023Sharp used the entire sensor area of its type 1 sensor behi... more1) sharp r7 uses 47MP out of 50. The output is about 11.7MP, there is crop unlike r6, because imx989 is 4:3 while 506 was 3:2, so 989 is bit larger (actually 1.05" or 1.1"). Sharp would need 17 or 18mm instead.

                          2) chinese phones never reach , not even for a second, the charging speeds advertised. Phone that OEM claims to support 150W and comes with 150W has peak of 120-125W for super short time , then it goes back to something below 90. You never have 150W, not even for 0,001s. So why saying phone supports 150W in this case besides to fool costumers? Pixel gets bashed, but chinese phones get free pass for doing same.

                          3) as said earlier, huawei fanboys keep saying p60 pro has new dual layer, but for contract, huawei was "forced to hide by sony semicon ". Poor huawei, doing so many cuts to save money and lame fanboys think they would speed money on super expensive tech. Sony semicon barely now can make enough for xperia, let alone huawei that would need 10x more units.

Since sensors are rectangle and lenses circular, in the end everybody is cropping. 100% of pixels is never used. Imx989 is 51.5 total, cant use it.

About the charging, does not matter if phone has 15, 30, 60, 120 or 240W.
If it never goes the advertised, it should not advertise it.
240W that never passes 180W is as fake ad as 30W that never passes 20W.

                              1. Aquos R6/R7 does pack a type-1 sensor behind a 19mm equivalent lens and manages to maintain the camera bump relatively small
                              2. Having a UWA lens that covers the entire sensor area of a sensor is still better than a narrower angle lens that only covers a portion of it
                              3. If it's a device for "pros" who don't mind carrying around their bulky cameras all the time, I don't think anyone interested in getting that phone would remotely care about a slightly large camera bump to begin with

"it's still captures high end both photos and video two years later"
I'm actually inclined to disagree with this one as well - Pro-I's sensor was decent, but a rather crude JPEG processing held it back quite considerably (Unless you're shooting in RAW). Xperia 1 V showed a fairly considerable improvement over Pro-I in how the Basic mode treats small details in good lighting conditions.

If it looks like those renders when it comes out, I would like to own one, looks good for my taste.

"when chinese brand brand advertises 240W charging"
Such a charger IS indeed rated at 240W at the plug but loses some of the power by the time it reaches the phone itself due to conversion and heat loss.

                                  "when it has imx789y"
The whole IMX888 on P60 Pro thing was clearly a bogus as Huawei would've immediately put that into their promotional material if they really had done that.
