Sony Xperia Pro-I II might have two 1.0" Type sensors

That's double the number that its predecessor fitted.

These Sony frauds said the same last time but in reality they didn't use the full 1 inch sensor at all. They only used a small fraction of it but branded it as a full 1 sensor. Its the same fraudulent, scammy and misleading marketing again. Shame on you scammy Sony.

"The more pixels outside image circle, the stronger is the EIS."
The cut part from the sensor of Xperia Pro-I is because the lenses do not cover the whole sensor, so no light get to the pixels outside. You cannot use these pixels for EIS, there is no information in them. When doing EIS it will crop even further more in order to have space to stabilize.

In my opinion the whole "1inch type" in Pro-I was just a marketing buzzword.

Samsung make 20x more money with phones compared to sony, ppl here think brands that is possible to spend same money on software. LOL !!!

Anders, 09 Jun 2023Does it matter how many 1" sensors it has when absolut... moreI would buy one if it was properly supported with 5 years of Android updates. And if the camera software was actually good and fully utilized those sensors.

But in a typical Sony fashion, they will have great hardware coupled with terrible, outdated camera software and algorithms and even with that advanced hardware, it will fall behind the competition. If I am paying that money for a cameraphone, it has to be absolutely and noticeably above the competition in photo and video capabilities.

They will also not provide Android updates.

So, in the end it will not be worth the money and of course no one will buy it.

Fearghast, 09 Jun 2023It will be even more impressive IF Sony would be able to ac... moreIt was cropped for a reason. It was RX100 sensor they tweaked and used inside a mobile phone and not mobile camera developed sensor like 989. The sensor itself is not quadbayer so 12mp cut off was real 12mp with a real pixel being in huge size. In order to cover the whole sensor area the field of view would have to go down to like 18mm or they would have to make a huge bump on the back of the phone like 13 Ultra has right now.

Overall the sensor in PRO-I is unique to a cellphone and it will never ever happen again. But what matters it the bottom line: it's still captures high end both photos and video two years later.

Anonymous, 09 Jun 2023Exactly. It's very unreasonable to crop a sensor. In c... more1) the sensor was ready, spny semicon just needed to change voltage to make it suitable for phones. This saved R&D money and time.

                  2) imx989 has no use to sony electronics, it does not have what xperia needs. It is just type 1.0. It lacks tech other sensors have. Pro-i sensor has built-in Dram like xz premium.

                  3) crop avoids that ugly and huge bump you see on oppo, xiaomi and vivo. Nobody at sony would allow phone with that thing.

                  4) crop allows pro-i to keep same FOV while going from 4:3 to 16:9/21:9. The more pixels outside image circle, the stronger is the EIS. In the end, it is better than native 12MP 1/1.3"

Seriously ppl here do not know these basic stuff ?

I can tell you: If there is a bitten apple on the back of the phone, then it is a top device. Apple lives from being a seperated, isolated brand which stands for itself. That is what Apple has been able to convince the people of: There is Android and there is Apple. Either you have Apple or you have Android.

If that's true, Sony Xperia Pro-I-II might have price tag of $2,000. I never used iPhone ever, and probably never will. However, I think No Android phones has the right to be more expensive than a iPhone's top dog. You don't agree with me? Top 10 phones here, still has last year's iPhone 14 Pro Max in the middle of the list. No android phones stays on that list more than a month maybe 6 weeks the most.

In case they really had to use 12mp (I see no reason for it), they could use one they sell to Xiaomi.
