Flashback: phones that weren’t, part 4: making a new smartphone OS is hard

Linux never dethroned Windows in the PC market, but can it challenge Android in the mobile space?

Why need more than one device if we can do more things comfortably with one device? Some people don't think that far, or maybe they feel that "normal people" should buy more devices because we're poor if we want a kind of all-in-one device.

And as I said, this can be a good replacement for laptop that runs on some crappy hardware like Celeron, since any phone with the same pricing as Celeron laptop will has way better performance than any Celeron laptops on the market. I never had a laptop with Celeron before, but I've used my friend's laptop before with Celeron to do some stuffs with PowerPoint, and it's literally has a worse performance than my mom's $500 Android phone.

I don't need to buy two different thing to do two different job when I can only have one thing that can do those two different job together.

Yes, they did. They prevented any functioning Google app from working on WP devices. I had a WP device and noticed the lack of Google apps.

It made sense, Apple was number 1 established and Android was fighting others for that number 2 spot. If they can cripple Microsoft, then they'd do it.

Microsoft was trying to bridge the app gap between them for a long time and was close with Windows 10 and sideloading, but it got scrapped as they almost got it.

Just wait for Apple to develop their equivalent of Android Desktop Mode for iOS.

blue, 02 Jul 2023Why should Apple do it, when they do things differently? Oh... moreTypical consumerism logic. Of course Apple won't do that because they want to keep draining your wallet for you to be fully locked to their ecosystem. Such a stupidly simple common sense that sh**ples like you can't even comprehend. 😂🤣

Windows phone would've been a great third OS had companies jump in. And Microsoft would've had better time developing Windows on Arm. Too bad companies decided to rival each other cause they love our data more than anything else. Maybe some day a better OS would be available that can put the smartphone duopoly to rest.

Microsoft Continuum flopped because Windows runs horribly on low specs. Ubuntu Edge would have actually been a good phone, but Canonical wanted enthusiasts to pay for it all. I think if they either made something more appealing to more enthusiasts and were willing to do a more limited run it could have worked. Maybe they should try it again. IMO they should partner with someone who already makes mainstream phones like Google used to do with the Pixels. Either way this ship has probably sailed for me since I prefer Arch now. 🤓
