TSMC pushes back the launch of its Arizona plant to 2025

21 July 2023
The company was initially hoping to start mass producing 4nm chips out of that plant next year, but a labor shortage caused the delay.

So If he said TSMC is a chinese company then he is not wrong.
If he meant a company from mainland china(PRC) then he is wrong.
I also wouldn't be so sure that People's Republic of China (PRC) can't develop their own technology for

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2023If they successfully mass produce 7nm which is a good start... moreUS and Taiwanese manufacturers have nothing to worry about since 7 nm is already six years old and by the time they manage to produce chipsets, it will be at least another year. SMIC has no way to get machines for better litography below 7 nm.

China can't get technology for less than 5 nm process. ASML won't sell due to sanctions and they are not able to develop it by themselves.

America will without a doubt make things incredibly expensive 🫰

I'm all for American manufacturing, but why did TSMC choose such a water intensive factory to be in Arizona? They could've chose any other place in the US and it would be better, I would choose Ohio to bring more jobs back to the Rust Belt.

lack of skilled workers say.. maybe the us corporate shouldn't have aliened their top employees to other countries by not paying them what they are worth, but i guess, ceo pays and shareholders earning should go up, even though they are useless leeches.

Real reason is reduced sales for TSMC in last 3 quarters. This factory will be delayed forever at this pace. This project is failure from the start.

Every iPhone iteration we hear how much better this processer performs over last year

Qualcomm SoC are not cheap, however Qualcomm is held in check by Exynos in both development and price.

Flagship Galaxy would sell even less in the USA if shipped with Exynos on board hence

Jumping forward slightly to October we will see how both Apple iPhone 15 performs as well as the others who will ship with Snapdragon 8 gen 3 over their 2022 counterparts

The delay if I read right is stagnation in SoC benchmark.
Maybe stabilization is a better word, you can't get faster unless you use the higher power consuming configuration so bigger battery

Both Samsung and TMSC are both in the 3nm race, so I m assuming that the 3nm was already slated for 2025 anyway

Exynos may never shed the perceived poor man relationship to Snapdragon, I do see it nearing parity

After article like this are released they always descend to the SD good Exynos bad, the SoC is just one of a phones total features.

Whilst this delay exists 2024 will show benchmarks plateaued, manufacturers not concerned with benchmarks will look to usable features

The revenues will continue to shrink as China are producing better products. If that rumor is true about Huawei, a lot of low and middle phones/tablets will be powered by Chinese chips making tsmc and Samsung more irelevant.
