UK Government should manufacture their own mobile devices. Same with other Governments who want access to citizens' information. Our world is a big mess, ruled by crocodiles. LOL

I hope they pull it. It's the only way retarded politicians learn. Can't outlaw and backdoor crypto.

That's a ridiculous decision. Privacy is the basic right for which thousands have fought.

Yeah, I don't like this. You want to catch criminals? Get their physical devices.

If Apple and Signal allow this, they are dead. Safety and security is a key to Signal's existence and one of the crucial features of Apple products.

The way UK is passing these 'progressive' laws one after the other, the real reasons behind sudden detachment from EU are getting clearer.

NomiHK786, 21 Jul 2023Didn't the world have issues when they found out certa... moreAnd not the smallest of proofs was actually found of 'those countries' having backdoor to 5G infra.
Ironically, the reason for pushing 'those countries' out was that they would not have allowed the host countries' own backdoors.

That's the pattern all over the globe now. Destroying every iota of privacy (if it remains at all) in the name of 'privacy laws'. What a sham!!

Whenever I hear this argument that people's liberties have to be curtailed... 'to protect them from terrorists', it gives further credence to the thought that terrorism is actually a s...e creation.

Anders, 21 Jul 2023For once I'm on Apple's side. Governments love in... moreIn fact, the Patriot Act's excuse was that it would be used to catch terrorists, but using this law, no terrorists have ever been caught. It was never about catching terrorists and pedophiles, it was always to access everybody's data, including texts, photos, real-time locations, and behavioural patterns. Also, they would be very upset if child molesters were actually caught using this law, because it raises the real possibility of catching out some of the people in government doing such disgusting acts.

The worst part is that the UK already has ways of forcing companies to install backdoors. It's just that the UK is now getting rid of the independent courts that oversee this, where they can oppose the government's decisions for a variety of reasons. Under this proposed change to an already horrible law, companies would be forced by the government to install backdoors without any reason being given, without the courts first giving the government warrants to do so, and the companies would not be able to tell customers any of this at all.

GAMIR3DH, 21 Jul 2023Apple has always been like this which i like. Standing up b... moreFrom that sole incident you may get the wrong idea.
Apple does everything to make money, they don't care much about your privacy.
Remember Apple sells in China & by law it is mandatory for every company to share user information to government in china. If Apple is something close to what you feel then how do you justify this?
Also their new privacy policy requires scanning of every single photograph in your phone in the name of child security & safety.
So you get the other sides of privacy oriented brand.

Anders, 21 Jul 2023For once I'm on Apple's side. Governments love in... moreI'm taking apple's side on this one too. Why would somebody want a backdoor to end-to-end encryption? Data/Privacy breaches are already at a high rate even with good cryptographic methods. Govt may be able to catch someone easily but if the guy is even a little smart, he could technically outsmart them besides it's too much of a risk than reward. If there's a backdoor to encryption then why encrypt data at all? If someone really wants to steal data, they will be able decrypt it using a backdoor as well.
