Sony will bring an overhauled design with the Xperia 5 V.

I guess everyone forgot about LG Innotek Optical Zoom Sensor.

Xperia 5 V might be using that, or they might have built something similar.

I feel like a professional in holding cellphones, I welcome the 1.5mm reduction in the width to 66.5mm from my iii 68mm, I welcome the iphon style plan 90 degrees flat sides and flat backside, basically same as previous z5 and x compacts the best of the best to hold only the compact iphone xe was the same, the xz2 compact rounded sides and bottom are awfull

As long as they keep the 3.5mm headphone jack and provide the micro SD slot while keeping flagship specs and keeping that sub 70mm width for one handed use, I'd still go for this.
While having advanced camera features is great and all, getting the best battery life out of the small unit and keeping the features that others have ditched already is more of a priority for me.
This and zenfone are the only two options left for people like me.
So I really don't have much of a choice.

Sony you lost me. First you remove 4.4x zoom periscope from V III to replace with 2.5x optical zoom in mark 4. And now you remove optical zoom at all from mark 5.
Even latest vanila Xiaomi 13 includes 3.2x optical zoom. Not to mention the best in class the Galaxy S23 that also has 3x optical zoom. There is no image processing that can restore that zoom level details, not to metion in video recording where things are even harder get quality with digital zoom.

I am Sony design fan boy, I like the tall, narrow and confortable in hand format, but this no longer acceptable. Sony is destroying their phones hardware and no software camara image processing improvents are apearing in new releases to catchup with Samsung and Apple. The excuse that photos look more natural all black at night and with low HDR between highlighs and shadows and in some cases smearing details due to bad image processing is not acceptable anymore.

My veridict is: Samsung Galaxy S23 killed all competion, and I personaly don't like its design and it's not so good battery runtime compared to Xperia phones.

Sony is realy disapoing and getting worst year after year.

I will bet 1 million $ that if Samsung or Xiaomi will bring them back, you will find another reason to bash them. How can someone feel insecure about their phone ? You must be in the 2nd grade or brain damaged to have this mentality LMAO

I may just pick a A series, or a Sony' phone depend on the budget, haven't make up my mind yet though (A series recent models use underpowered SoCs in general, and Sony' "remote control" like aspect ratio is not exactly my cup of tea, plus Sony' are a bit overpriced for what it offers across the board), therefore I am not ruling out the choice of settle with a S23 plus a thumb stick if nothing better come up later...

Anonymous, 27 Jul 2023For folks like me it's a godsend since my line of work... more"For folks like me it's a godsend since my line of work do deal with taking photos/videos & I ain't limited by whatever available storage my phone has as well as I can just pop off the sdcard to whom I want to give those files to & still have an extra inhand upto 1tb if needed & cheap. Not like those photos or videos that is being taken are more than hours or so that would reach GB size while phots are only MB anyways so its not a big deal."

                        - You could of just originally said that. How were we to know you popped out your MicroSD card to give to someone for work lol. I would use a digital camera for much better image/video quality plus a much faster CFexpress Type C card if my line of work involved taking photos/videos but each to their own.

"I ain't a pro photographer/videographer who needs those DLSR Cameras heck even some DLSR's still use sdcards not solely compact flash & casual users don't buy expensive stuff anyways."

                        - Lot's of pro photographers have now switched to mirrerless cameras, it will be the majority in the next few years. SD cards for cameras are different from MicroSD cards for smartphones, SD cards are faster than MicroSD cards but not in smartphones because they're too big. The current fastest storage card for digital cameras is CFexpress Type C which is super fast.

"I can deal with a decent upto 180mb or maybe more(with decent card readers) transfer rates."

                        - The write read advertised speeds of MicroSD cards (all memory cards) is the theoretical speed. Sometimes it can be much slower than advertised!

"Sad part is you are one of those who is fine if manufacturers keep cutting features on a product not exclusively phones when in reality there's really no point removing them in the first place other than force you to buy more expensive stuff with less & less features or functionality."

                        - I specifically want to access my photos/videos etc as fast as possible so obviously I don't want to use a slow MicroSD card in my phone. So how exactly is that sad as many other people feel the same as me. Plus I've nothing against people like you who use smartphones with MicroSD cards. Just go buy a different smartphone with a MicroSD card slot as no point complaining moaning about a companies choice to not include a MicroSD card slot.

ingramli, 27 Jul 2023"But smartphone manufacturers also have to make a prof... moreYour going to be waiting forever then as MicroSD cards aren't coming back to the S series. Though maybe it will in a future fan/special edition.

Ryan, 27 Jul 2023The only reason manufacturers aren't including SD card... moreObviously it's about money so they can sell the 256GB, 512GB, 1TB storage variants at vastly increased prices 🤑

But for me personally I have a 512GB internal Storage smartphone which is enough for me, though I would have bought a 1TB variant if it was available!

Now if smartphones had a miniature version of CFexpress Type C cards used for digital cameras that can get around 3,000MB/s real world speeds then I would happily have that card slot in my phone.

But MicroSD cards are just far too slow for my specific needs. Others like them, that's fine their choice to buy phones with a MicroSD card slot.

And when comparing it to the binned telephoto image of the regular Pixel 7, I can say the difference in quality is pretty drastic. Was hoping the Xperia 5 V would be a miniature flagship with all the bells and whistles, kind of tired of carrying around giant phones.

Sony phones always attracts all kinds of haters specially those insecure with their phones that don't have features like sdcard slot & 3.5mm jack. 🤣🤣🤣

Not to mention with oversaturated fake photos.

With current sensor sizes and pixel binning technologies, having a telephoto is redundant in most cases (unless we're talking zoom levels over 4x). I'm okay with this as long as Sony gets the software side of things right.
