iOS doesn't have the many layers of code that Android has, it's a lighter OS that is optimised for the hardware it is on. It's one of the reasons I like Apple devices.
Android seems a bit hit and miss when it comes to smoothness. You're always one update away from a fix or another bug.

Before moving to JB 4.3, seriously Google must refine and improve the Android OS especially the "lagging" problem in JB 4.2.2.

Even though iPhone 5 (1GB RAM) and iPad Mini(512 MB RAM) have lesser RAM but they're very much smoother than the top end smartphones like Xperia Z/ZL, HTC One, Galaxy S4 which have 2 GB RAM.

It seems intelligent, as releasing many updates, creates a big problem to manufacturers, as users always want LATEST update on their phone. Same apple is increasing iOS also slowly now to prevent old phones to be out of the market. Nowadays, updating fast is NOT the good choice. Android has more than 753 models in the market, and any update could create a problem to phone manufacturers against their customers.

most of those are useless features in that website for key lime pie. i like the 4.2 notification bar. i dont like the lockscreen it is not secure. new features i wish for, better project butter, still most apps are not as smooth as in ios and wp8. to wake the phone by double tap, volume rocker and shake to wake is what i am hoping in next version and galaxy style power widgets in notification

its name has few changes 4.3 instead of 4.2
                              why?
because there are also FEW UPDGRADE of its features .

Google is trying to avoid further bad news. Each new version gets a smaller and smaller piece of the Android pie.
