Weekly poll: how do you feel about Apple's impending transition from Lightning to USB-C?

06 August 2023
The USB-C port is already the default on Macs and iPads, but a lot of accessories (for both Macs and iPhones) still rely on Lightning. What will happen to them?

125W is insane but i am glad for that.
The difference between what i had in past 10 years and now is huge.
Since time is money faster is always better.

Also yes, of course it won't generate heat when fully charged. It heats up the most when the phone is close to empty because that is when it can charge at the highest wattage.

And even if i pull later or much later past 100% it does not generate heat since battery is full.

I think companies should focus on optimisation. Making sure the phone charges as fast as it can, generating as little heat as possible instead of getting in this numbers race. Higher wattage means higher temperatures. I don't think there is much of a difference between 65w getting the battery to 45⁰ for 30ish minutes or 150w getting the battery to 50⁰+ for 10.

I really hope that the implementation of USB-C will change also the way, how iPhone content (i.e. app windows, home-screens) will be displayed on a connected 16:9 monitor. If Thunderbolt 3 is in that game as well, this might improve the ability, to work with IPhone apps on a set-up with connected 16:9 Monitor, keyboard and mouse. Currently with Lightning port, this topic is a real mess with iPhones being in a set-up as aforementioned.

Perfect one connector for All finally

Whats wrong on charging device 10 minutes instead of 45???
In case of 10 minutes battery wont heat enough and your device is ready in case of 65W charger your battery will get some heat which could have some impact older your device will be.

PeterThePanda, 06 Aug 2023They should’ve switched to USB-C for iPhone in 2015 but $$$... moreUsb-c as such is NOT royality free whatsoever u have to pay for everything.. u don't have to pay for actual connector more but manuf definatley must pay for usb 3.2 specification protocol more than for usb 2.0 protocol... So that's why u see on ''low end'' phones and ''mid end'' only usb-c 2.0 becsue they will pay much less for protocol .. So USB 3.2 protocol is valued much higher and it is used only on ''high end'' smartphones.. For single piece it is not expensive but companies do precalculations before manufacturing phone model and when they mulitply usb 2.0 cost by milions devices manufactured and cost for usb 3.2 for milion devices you will see massive payout difference...

every single electronic device (portable speakers, headphones, laptops, keyboards, mice, joypads, walkie talkies, toys, flashlights, coffee grinders...) use type-C. apple's iphone was one of few. this was not a decision made by apple to appreciate. EU regulations forced them do the right thing for end users.

Finally !! However, with Apple there is always is a "BUT!" to go with that change...just to be difficult....you have to buy the cable made by Apple to the best throughput. All other cables will be slow....there is the "BUT!". Now they just got to put back the SIM card in the US...ESIM is pain if you want to switch phones(which I do often due to bad Apple updates).

Just remember it will still be Lightning port just disguised as USB-C shape. It won’t work with any normal USB-C accessories not MFI approved. Apple just complying with bare minimum of the law. Back in the day they should have stayed with 30-Pin for a few more years then gone straight to USB-C. 30-Pin was a really good solid connector.
