"opening up to 53 apps simultaneously and can hold up to 41 applications open in memory for up to 72 hours."

That is a peculiarly misleading way to describe RAM and software memory use, but OK.

        >OnePlus China President Li Jie added that with the new 24GB memory chip, OnePlus Ace 2 Pro is capable of opening up to 53 apps simultaneously and can hold up to 41 applications open in memory for up to 72 hours.
Lies.It will all get killed the second it goes in the background.

Not sure what's the purpose of this anywhere outside a workstation tablet or laptop.

Also, sensor development on smartphones seem to have slowed down, and processing isn't bringing too much new to the table. It's probably high time smartphones camera makers from imaging sensor, to plastic and glass lens, to SoC, to other hardware and software and Android optimization etc need to work to improve things. Smartphone cameras aren't really improving enough beyond social media sharing, regardless of sensor size or pixel count.

Cameras they are improving, yet they go nowhere near DSLR levels due to size limitations.
Audio they were improving till 2019, then Google removed hardware level audio decoding (or something) in Android 10 onwards, thus avoiding audio quality improvements.

Everything else is nothing new, just maxing out stuff.
Seriously, 50 apps open together is an achievement we need my phone to have?
In 6GB RAM, my phone never showed signs of slowing even with the rare 6-7 apps that were active at a time. I never needed more.

No one needs this. What a waste of resources...

The sad reality about this was that smartphone market's probably going stagnant and manufacturers are doing the best they can to become relevant while still selling phones at higher prices and that includes having a feature just for the bragging rights instead of having actual practical uses.

WhoCaresTM, 11 Aug 2023Right, because who cares about useful features like headpho... moreHeadphone jack? While I would love to have the option, All flagship phones starting since back in 2017 to 18 have removed it and wont be adding it in the future. They also did the same for micro SD cards. They want you to get their wireless air pods and spend more money on that rather than wired ones that need the jack.

It's time for the new UFS cards with faster read and write speeds in their 400s to 800s of MB/s, but that won't happen too because they want you to buy their higher storage variants so that the manufacturers get the money instead of the storage companies. So SD cards in flagship phones will be history. Nowadays they're even reducing SD card slots to $180 phones or less.

IR blaster is only useful if you wanna change your neighbour's TV channels and act like a dbag.

We don't need removable batteries anymore. Just grab a 30 to 100Ah power bank with fast charging, and charge your phone with at 5Ah battery whenever it goes under 10%.

Heart rate sensors? Don't they have those in smart watches already? Who needs that feature on a phone?

While 24GB RAM on a phone is unnecessary right now, some people will still find the need for it. So being able to have more storage and ram options is an advantage.

The current 200MP cameras are just 12MP binned, and not actual 200MP. Same goes for the current 50, 64 and 108MP. What we need is larger sensor sizes and variable apertures.

The camera setup on the OnePlus 12 will be much better than on the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro. OP12 won't have the basic 8MP ultrawide & 2MP macro of the Ace 2 Pro!

OP12 camera hardware should be decent with a proper periscope camera this time, though the upcoming sister flagship Oppo Find X7 Pro will be even better.

Likely only 16GB RAM and 512GB Storage max for OP12 as they stopped pro models in the series a while ago. Though the cutting edge Tiangong Cooling System from the Ace 2 Pro is rumoured to be used in the OP12.
