But after a year. They would just replace it with another new android handsets.
Especially if one wants to jump from 8GB to 18GB of ram. With the same FPS as before.

Its about daily usage, most people don't even see the difference between 6 vs 8 GB of RAM (daily usage - without any benchmark app), at least not when it comes to iPhones. Mostly cause we only use it for popular social apps, messages and making calls and thats it, if the user interface works fluidly, thats it.

Anonymous, 13 Aug 2023I bet those commenting that 6GB of RAM is enough for iPhone... moreApple doesn't use Separate NAND chips as RAM
Their RAM is integrated and built into the SOC package
Storage is what is separate from SOC.

you have to suffer, 14 Aug 2023considering android now eats ram like windows pc..
nowaday... moreAndroid will always use more RAM.
Google never made android and their sofware team never built the OS.
Thus they focused more on google app ecosystem which runs on the base layer of android.
The google play service app use more than 2 GB ROM of my phone, who knows how much RAM it use!
And all those other apps google have.
Other normal android apps also use more RAM.
I play a basic strategy game, it use 1 GB RAM easily.
Android OS use more than 1.5 or 2 GB just to operate the OS.
So, buying phones with less RAM is not worthy this days cause the phone will not last long and if last then will be super laggy for upcoming days.

Anonymous, 13 Aug 2023why then an ipad pro that has more pixels to drive with 8gb... moreLet's be honest here, you have to use the iPad since you don't have any better argument from an iPhone perspective. Android smartphones DOES NOT compete with an iPad, what an irrelevant comparison on your part.

Anonymous, 13 Aug 2023Because, uh, Apple does something to apps sent to the bakcg... moreNope.
What do you get on an open OS like android? One or more apps tend to eat a lot of memory. For the android side. It's the Google Play Services, Google Play Games, and the app that you're using. There's a lot of reports that android 13 is using too much ram compared to 12.
I have a galaxy note 20 ultra 5g and an iphone 12 pro max which are both 512GB. Both have 13% storage left. And both are being used everyday. Watching videos, playing games, reading socmed messages, taking photos, and reading manga. It's all about UPDATES. Apple releases a lot of patches. While android takes too long to release.
I have seen a lot of people spending 2K to 3K usd just to get a foldable phone. Only to last for 6 months because the inner display has a lot of scratches from fingernails, coins, keys, and other hard objects that struct the inner display. Some have lines from their display because of the updates. Liquid damage, accidental drops, bloated battery, and so on.
You think spending on a phone worth 1k to 2k usd is much worst than an android? Think again.
