DroidBoye, 13 Aug 2023Yep, iPhones are not designed for multitasking though they ... morethe ipad has splitscreen and it remains what it was even decades ago...something useful but not mandatory, so the same iOS , but Apple knows that on smartphone the splitscreen is useless just a thing for debate for android users

Anonymous, 13 Aug 2023Because, uh, Apple does something to apps sent to the bakcg... moreYep, iPhones are not designed for multitasking though they will excel in single app benchmarks which is true (performancewise) but the phone software itself is way behind Android in terms of maximizing the RAM via multitasking. Still waiting for Apple to implement splitscreen, DEX-like feature and even USB-C port with USB 3 and video alt mode for connecting external displays, for the price they have these things should already be standard.

The news isn't even that relevant as a big feature, 8GB is too much for an iPhone given the fact that there's no Desktop mode like DEX (Samsung) and even no native support for split screen in the OS. I think iPhone's just adding it as a feature with no relevant advantages just to justify another price increase with their next release. In Android for example, it's very easy to splitscreen (2 apps) and use PIP on top of it for multitasking. Especially with DEX in Samsung, you can open apps simultaneously on a large external wired display so having higher RAM is easily justified. It's a shame that an iPhone 14 Pro (for example) sold at the same price as a Samsung Galaxy still use USB 2.0 port.

Unlike Android, iOS runs native code so RAM use is quite lower (not twice but close to it) and Apple doesn't need to have 12/16/24GB models.

What a joke. Even two years old midrange Androids have 8GB ram. Bravo Apple. What an innovation. And don't tell me that iOS needs only 4GB ram.

Foxtrot2Novmbr, 13 Aug 2023Did you know that android is fragmented?
Yes 6GB ram on... moreBecause, uh, Apple does something to apps sent to the bakcground? Unlike android that keeps them running even if you switch across apps? The lesser the ram, the higher chance the app refreshes or restarts.
Of course, simple iphone users won't notice the shenanigans so they get that "smooth" experience lol.
But still, imagine spending 1k to 2k usd just to have a 6gb ram glorified facebook machine.

Zero, 13 Aug 2023Not always. Dex mode is starting to eat lot of resources an... moreDex mode is absolute gimmick used by 1% of all Samsung users. No one probably even know what is Dex :D

Anonymous, 13 Aug 2023I bet those commenting that 6GB of RAM is enough for iPhone... moreThe older iphone 4/4s generation were busy, back in the day, of justifying their 16gb storage and repeatedly said it's enough. They love Apple so much they even defended the 8Gb variant sold in India. So 8Gb- amount consumed by OS - future updates - installed apps/saved pictures and video = enough memory. lmao.

OnePlus will be long done with that phone from a support point of view by the time, that excessive amount of ram is required.

Foxtrot2Novmbr, 13 Aug 2023Did you know that android is fragmented? Yes 6GB ram on... moreIt runs fine because the users don't have a need for more RAM on iPhone. They aren't tech savvy users hence even half of 6 GB is enough for them when all that do is browse texting and social media apps. That doesn't need a lot of RAM hence apple doesn't put anything more than 4 or 6 gb in their phones

Foxtrot2Novmbr, 13 Aug 2023Those are light games. Games like COD, Genshin Impact, honk... moreNo, i have not tried any of them. But even if these aaa+ titles would run 40 fps - it would be still playable. I doubt my phone won't be able to somehow run these games, maybe on middle settings, but still.
My phone is not brand new, it's poco m4 pro 5g, and it's 1 year 5 months old now.
The initial article was about ram, so i still belive even 4/64 on android is still legible, considering the price point, of course. It costed 189 usd. It has also had 1 major android update, up to android 12 for now.
The sole point i am not quite happy about is its main camera. It uses this samsung jn1 50mp module, and it is weak.

Yes 6GB ram on phone in 2023 is stupid. Especially on android phones. Yet how come a 6GB iphone runs just fine?

Also, if you're phone is brand new. Games run flawlessly, Wait till few months. Your gameplay will start to lag. And I experience this since I'm currently using note 20 ultra 5g.
