It is called Beeper, and while in Beta, it is the first to bring Google's SMS alternative to iOS.

It's a massive win in my book. I've already uninstalled Whatsapp to use this and will remove Google Messages once RCS is supported.

Why use a 3rd party application when I can use a native application with much better security and a much more fluid experience? It's like buying a car and riding a bicycle instead.

"Rich Communication Services are now a commercial reality. RCS constitutes a revolution in text-based messaging – an upgrade to SMS on a global scale. Users can now access a range of advanced capabilities from within their native messaging service – capabilities which previously required a separate OTT app to be downloaded. Group chat, file sharing, video calling, even practicalities such as booking a flight or restaurant, all are now possible via mobile without the need to download and configure multiple additional apps. Messaging is no longer limited to sending simple SMS text: it has become a platform.

Market opportunities for RCS services are considerable. The market for older SMS-based business-to-customer messaging is already forecast to be worth $74billon by 2021 and, as RCS increasingly comes into play, this is forecast to jump to $90 billion. RCS richer features provide further growth of up to 30%. 50 operators have now either launched RCS, or announced their intention to do so, and there are already 154 million monthly active users worldwide, as compared to 30 million only a year ago. This is expected to rise above 220 million over the next two quarters alone. This speed with which RCS has come about is striking: at Mobile World Congress this year in Barcelona, the GSMA’s Future Networks Programme, together with Operators, technology providers and brands showcased proofs of concept in RCS. "

"The Rich Communication Suite industry initiative[12] was formed by a group of industry promoters in 2007. In February 2008 the GSM Association officially became the project home of RCS and an RCS steering committee was established by the organization.

The steering committee specified the definition, testing, and integration of the services in the application suite known as RCS.[13][14][15] Three years later, the RCS project released a new specification – RCS-e (e = 'enhanced'), which included various iterations of the original RCS specifications. The GSMA program is now called Rich Communication Services.[16]

The GSMA published the Universal Profile in November 2016.[17] The Universal Profile is a single GSMA specification for advanced communications. Carriers that deploy the Universal Profile guarantee interconnection with other carriers. Forty-seven (47) mobile network operators, eleven (11) manufacturers, and two (2) OS providers (Google and Microsoft) have announced their support.[18] Google's Jibe Cloud platform is an implementation of the RCS Universal Profile, designed to help carriers launch RCS quickly and scale easily.[19]

Samsung was one of the first major device original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to support RCS. Samsung RCS capable devices have been commercially launched in Europe since 2012 and in the United States since 2015. "

BTW Apple only doesn't use RCS because they're anti-competetive and anti-consumer NOT because it has anything to do with Android/Google.
