DarlingYext, 21 Aug 2023"Samsung use of Exynos in part to reduce cost.." ... moreIf they perform according to how it should, given its price, or have significant advantages, I would be more than happy to pay the premium. But it should perform, otherwise, there is no incentive to buy the S24 over S23 series, and I am sure Samsung is fully aware of this fact.
But, will they be able to deliver this time ?
Only time would tell, and if they are to use Exynos, I hope it does perform, for the users sake.

ashrobb, 21 Aug 2023I read some of these news and to my understanding, they rep... moreYields, efficiency, and performance are often nearly the same thing. In semiconductor manufacturing, you don't just get chips that work or don't work. You get chips that work 100%, chips that only reach at 90% speed, chips that can hit 100% speed but at lower efficiency, chips that can hit speed and efficiency but are unstable, etc.

"Yield" is simply how many chips are hitting their targets. Higher yield typically means more chips are reaching speed and efficiency goals. They can sell more chips with a lower yield simply by lowering their goals. If the yields are good, that generally means they can choose the best of the batches.

justasmile, 21 Aug 2023Even though Samsung Exynos is usually bad, I have high hope... moreMe too. Hopefully, they are doing the chip production and optimisation around the upcoming S24 series. If yes, it could be a big W for samsung, and the whole smartphone industry in general. It could make a difference in a variety of areas, from how optimised and efficient it can be, to the entire photography experience, as they can use their own ISP and tune it according to their will.
Also, it will mean Snapdragon will have competition and will want other brands to buy their chips, since Samsung is one of their major customers, and so, will drive prices down, increasing the number of phones that will use the new chipset, rather than using a year old chips, like the 8+ Gen 1 is being used.

If Samsung flops, chances are S24 series sales will plummet and S23 series sales will still go strong as it is a great phone which will recieve huge price cuts, once S24 series is released.

In every single test, Exynos Galaxy S models were eating more battery, having hugely weaker GPU and CPU was also lacking. Why should my Ultra cost the same as the one Americans get with Snapdragon that's better in all those areas just because I live in Europe?

ishreal, 21 Aug 2023The vast majority of people globally have zero issues with ... moreDo you really think Samsung its a bigger commpany than Apple ( dont understand wrong, i dont like any of this brands) you give exaple S20/21/22 who use Exynos, but you forgoted they use Exynos becouse they make this proccesor, not becouse its soo good, Qualcom and Dimensity are much better than Exynos. At this moment Exynos its fight with Kirin .I see many phones with Exynos, much more people have problems with them than you think becouse overheating. If you said that Exynos CPU are in buget and midrange phones i dont think if you know what CPU and for what using we speak here. Here we are speaking about an CPU who can be one of best in performance at this moment not about CPU's who isnt overheating soo much becouse dont have enough power.

ishreal, 21 Aug 2023The vast majority of people globally have zero issues with ... moreMost people use them yes, but that's because they have to. Why?

Samsung is the most widely available brand anywhere and everywhere and almost everyone has already been familiar with their UI and the way their phones work for a very long time, most people just don't want to try anything new. Even if they want to, there are still a lot of people who only know about 2-4 brands, being Apple, Samsung and Huawei and some maybe about Xiaomi. Huawei is out at this point for most people, so unless they want an iPhone, only Samsung and Xiaomi remain. Xiaomi is running themselves into the ground with their confusing naming and horrible Redmi A series though.

That doesn't mean that there aren't a whole bunch of people who have issues with Exynos chipsets. Oh and currently the most popular flagship phone series where I'm from is the S23 series, for this exact reason. The most popular A series was and still is the A52s, which uses a Qualcomm chipset.

Remember nearly all of Samsung's budget and midrange phones and tablets use exynos and the vast majority of people on earth use budget-midrange devices. And when you go into the flagship market, 99% of people don't buy the latest phone when it drops, so that means, the Qualcomm S23 isn't the most used flagship right now, likely S20, S21, or S22. And do you know which version is on the majority of those phones globally? Exynos. Which means out of the majority of flagship phones users and ALL budget and midrange users (which is the majority of smartphone/tablet users globally) who use Samsung, they all use Exynos. Do you remember who is the largest smartphone brand globally? Samsung. So the majority of ALL smartphone and tablet users on earth use Exynos and have no issue with it.
