Furkan, 22 Aug 2023I think Xiaomi will make less phones laterWhen will that happen? Give me date and time. Xiaomi always flood the market with their devices like crazy. Just look how many Redmi 12 models they have. They are hopeless case in my opinion.

Samsung Gets Monthly Updates for it's Flagship AFAIK whereas Xiaomi Gets Quarterly Updates.

jiyen235, 22 Aug 2023Not only this, but their availability is low as well. TBH I... moreYes exactly that's why I am using Google Pixel 7 pro. Every month timely security updates. Xiaomi updates are so late on their flagship devices. Midrange and low-end devices are left behind. They always lag few months behind Google and Samsung. The problem is Xiaomi release every week new phones. So it's IMPOSSIBLE to update all of them on time.

Anonymous, 22 Aug 2023I think at least with security updates 5 years should be ma... moreThats not possible because low end phones wont last as long as your warranty thus 2 years.

            Nice, good Xiaomi.

Anonymous, 22 Aug 2023Matching is not good enough. They need to make the security... moreNot only this, but their availability is low as well. TBH I'd rather get fast updates for 3 years than slow updates for 4, but different people have different opinions on this, slow updates for 4 years is more viable for the company so ig that's why they're saying this.

rosesarerosie, 22 Aug 2023Because as the third biggest smartphone company they would ... moreAlways be skeptical of promises made by companies, remember Samsung talking about how good their chipsets would be? Nvidia were talking about how fast their GPUs would be but that was with AI Frame generation which added input lag. LG promised 2k nits of brightness on G3 OLED but that was with vivid mode only. Apple took shots at Sony's BVM HX-310 and said the Pro Display XDR was the best pro display, and it was nowhere near as close to it in dark scenes. Manufacturers will always hype the snot out of their products, as rational consumers we have to be skeptical and not take their word for it from the get go, so that we don't get disappointed all the time.

Ouifuf, 22 Aug 2023Doesn't matter how many updates you offer. People are ... more3 is enough for the first consumer, what about the person you sell this phone to? The value of the phone would be significantly lower, more support gives more value to the product you get, improves longevity and improves resale value. Don't attack consumers, support manufacturers when they are making decisions that benefit the consumers. Otherwise we'd be living in a world where we'd get a blank slab and we'd have to buy individual parts from each manufacturer as that's what would provide the most profits, for example look at the headphone jack removal and sd card slot removal. Doesn't benefit consumers in the slightest, only takes their choices away and allows companies to get more profits.

Anton., 22 Aug 2023Promises, from what is said to what is done there is a long wayBecause as the third biggest smartphone company they would just randomly claim a thing like this without backing it up, right ?
Think about it a little, I'm sure it will help

Doesn't matter how many updates you offer. People are still gonna complain lol. If they offered 10+years then half of this site will complain that the battery won't last as long and xiaomi should give free batteries or smth lol. Consumers suck.

Average person is upgrading their phone every 3 years, so 3 is enough. Plus I'm willing to bet the majority of people outside of China that would buy are phone like this are techy people, especially in the west. And those are the type of people that will upgrade their phones more often, maybe every 2 years.

It's a step in the right direction.

I hope most xiaomi midranges gets this android support soon

NGL there'll be 3-4 months between security patchs and major update will be on year end (mostly buggy)

Matching is not good enough. They need to make the security updates timely, not months later, and they need to extend this to more than the “premium” models.

You can’t be a “premium brand” if you provide awful post-sale service, because with that behaviour you’re pretty much asking your own customers to jump ship to another brand.

The stuff that costs money and effort (software support, coherent UI, ecosystem compatibility) is not on their list
