Weekly poll: do you use a screen protector and a case?

27 August 2023
Some people carry their phone with no extra protection, others feel safer with a protector. Some see cases as a style add-on, others as unnecessary bulk.

Apple Rules, 27 Aug 2023case yes, screen protector never. I've never had a sc... moreIs it a point of pride to be wasteful? I don't get that mentality. Like if you *must* use your phone lacking some protections, it's not fair to judge people using more.

My main reason is because glass scratches easy - frankly, gorilla glass is full of s***, I've never trusted it - and even if it's cruddy film, that's a $1 to replace. Etched glass? You have te pay to get a new one.

Like screw moh scale ratings, if this glass was so darn good, why do so many people walk around with vandalized phones? It's pretty clear at the barest minimum it's not life-proof. So scratches and permanent marks are a given - but the solution to sparing yourself is so laughably cheap, why not?

Glass has never interfered with my use. I would love if they started making those protectors in a matte variant, but I can deal.

Anyway, you do you, but it just seems like it's gonna suck when you probably have that accident, y'know, tripping or something, and you're on the hook to either suffer or replace/repair, which costs hundreds of times more than a basic protector.

At least you use a case, which is good. But I'm just gonna say anyone trusting their phone glass for scratches at a minimum is faaaaaar too optimistic.

I have a OnePlus Nord and I am still rocking the included case and the screen protector lmao
It has honestly held up way better than I could have ever expected. Saved me from a few low and like 2-3 high drops.
Hope it remains this way haha.

Yes, I use both because I'm too cheap to spend $300-500+ on screen replacement or phone replacement in case I drop my phone. I plan to use my phone for 5+ years or as long as I can, so keeping it in good condition is a priority.

Care programs: charge extra money, sometimes monthly; offer discounts for screen replacement or phone repair, but never seem to cover the full cost of the service, and don't provide discount large enough to make any sense. Terms are usually extremely slimey (horrible for the customer). So I never use them. Haven't seen a single care program that made any financial sense for the buyer.

Blur, 27 Aug 2023Phones are absolutely not tough enough to "go commando... moreAnd that's called "Planned Obsolescence" 👍

justasmile, 27 Aug 2023You bought many, but do they include Xiaomi and Oppo phones?Pre-installed plastic screen protector has been on every Xiaomi/Poco phone I have bought (4 so far) and also on OnePlus, Realme, Oppo too, but I don't know about Motorola? On very cheap budget phones the protector can be cheap lousy quality and catches dirt and fingerprints too easy and they are hard to clean so then it's best to remove it. On my Xiaomi 12 Lite the pre-installed screen protector on the other hand is of outstanding quality, doesn't get dirty seems to resist smudges and is crystal clear + feels like thin glass.

Yes I have a case on my phone A54 5g besides the back is all glass. I need my money and don't want to be paying to get something fixed. I might get a screen protector not sure yet. I also have the S20 Fe and that has a case also and no screen protector.

Anonymous, 27 Aug 2023There is case on it. Simple. You will not admit, obviously. Yes there is a case on it, I already mentioned it in a comment on this exact article. The case I use, is the same faux leather that's my phone's rear panel, and it came in the box.

Phones are absolutely not tough enough to "go commando". Glass will always scratch and break, no matter what fancy marketing words Corning throw at it.
