Report: Asus to discontinue Zenfone series

28 August 2023
The Zenfone 10 may very well be the last of its kind.

Sort by:

I been expecting similar news also from Nokia smartphones, as they too have not been successful in terms of count of devices sold

ASUS, still been praised, their mid-ranger Zenfone Max series been selling better and should have been focused more & continued, in my opinion

Anonymous, 29 Aug 2023Samsung S23 is over 100 euro cheaper then Zenfone 10 while ... moreYou are highly mistaken. The S23 does not have a high quality build. Not even close

Just go to YouTube and look up drop tests for S23. The thing breaks in pieces, the moment it touches the floor

Anonymous, 28 Aug 2023Why they do that? - Asus got recently exposed by Gamers... moreThis is the reason Xiaomi releases 1000 variants for one model ....stupid logic.....the mai problem for this phone was the price ...for the 8 gb variant ...it was ridiculous.....then 16 gb variant had even ridiculous price . At least here. The 33w charging was another problem . And the big chin. ...they coulde ve tried to improve that...also on zenfone 9 they had a lot of problems wirh the signal . That weren t resolved so fast from what i know ...everybody was complaining . . Only 2 android upgrades seem pretty bad for me .

Anonymous, 28 Aug 2023Why they do that? - Asus got recently exposed by Gamers... moreToo much complaining there

I was really hoping they would come back swinging next year with another normal size flip camera phone.. I bought zenfone 6 (still use it to this day as my work phone) and zenfone 7 which is still my daily driver that I've been looking to replace (only cuz my camera motor broke after a 2m fall around a month ago, though it's still usable but I gotta use my finger to move it). After being spoiled with the flip cameras, I just don't know which phone to buy anymore. I was thinking of buying a almost 3 year old zenfone 8 flip which is essentially the same phone as zf7 but with a 1 gen newer SOC and literally no other differences. My other options are Pixel and ROG Phone, but Pixels have been having hardware issues left and right in the past couple of years (with fingerprint scanners, volume buttons etc.), and ROG phone just doesn't have a great camera. On Samsung I really hate the OS with all their bloatware and I also don't like how the pictures look. I used to be a huge Asus and LG fan (Pixel too for Pixels 3, 4 and 5), but now it seems almost all of the good Android options have been taken away and only the mainstrsam ones are left. I guess I'll be stuck with my ZF7 for a while until something good actually comes out again. Hopefully Pixel 8 will be a decent phone

              In any case, wasted marketing.

As for why Taiwanese or even some like Sony, moto, Nokia not able to compete with Chinese and samsung is because they lost the battle of supply chain primarily. A company should have its own good supply chain or have enough money to get first dibs on components or the best components.

You know Samsung makes great phones, when multiple companies choose to give up competing with Samsung.

Nokia, Sony, Huawei, Asus must stop creating their own phone and be the official distribution partner of Samsung intead, it would be more profitable selling samsung phones.

They should learn from LG. LG stop making phones and also an official Samsung distribution partner in South Korea.

                        but who knows?

Eh. Tbh the series lost its charm ever since they ditched the flip camera and started upping their prices. I still remember their Zenfone 2 though, back then that was an awesome phone for the price.

                              Why they do that?

                              - Asus got recently exposed by Gamers Nexus. A computer journalism media founded by the "Jesus Of Computers" Steve Burke. Claiming that their services in the recent years are garbage including their warranty. The warranty also counted on the mobile divisions including the ROG Ally and the Zen lineup. This later followed for the company to be boycotted.

                              - Asus never followed the trend of "compact" phones of the future that is the Folding Smartphone. They instead milking the Zenfone lineup with only ONE variant. Zenfone 10 is just Zenfone 9 with some minor additions. No motorized camera, no midrange variety that is the Pro Max, and no Mediatek Dimensity variant that can be found on the ROG Phone 6D. Meanwhile, engineering spokespersons on Samsung and Motorola truly said this: 'If you're gonna open the folding fold all the time, you might consider the standard form of the phone.' So, they put the front full screens on the RAZR 40 Plus and the Z Flip 5, treating them as hybrids. More versatile than the Zenfone 9 and/or 10 despite having no headphone jack and expandable storage.

                              - Asus themselves. This will easily give them the Bust Of The Year 2023 award from MKBHD...

Foxtrot2Novmbr, 28 Aug 2023If asus is moving the zenfone team to the ROG. As long as t... more"" Then more people will notice the asus ROG phone.""

I dont think there is a problem in that case. The problem is that it's a gaming phone and is expensive also and there for the market is slim cause a lot of people just cant get it. Also the problem is that people can just get a Poco that is half the price and have a gamepad to play games on them. There is also middle class phones that do well in games with performance that are cheap for people to buy.

At the price they ask these ROG phones you get a good laptop to play AAA games or get yourself a playstation or xbox. The games that you probably wont get to play on a android phone next 10 years if ever

And for cloud streaming games you dont need the latest and best hardware phone on the market.

And gamiing devices are for kids so parents need to buy them for kids. Young adults also play a lot but i would think they still want a console or PC over a phone in that price range.

You can get something like GTX1080 desktop computer used for that money with something like i7 or some AMD chip that is like 5 years old but will play all the games in the market. Even my computer that is 10-11 years old with i5 4570 / 16GB DDR3 / GTX 970 still running all the modern games no problems.

ROG just have few more buttons on the phone for gaming but thats about it of it's difference to other phones in the market. Phones like Poco F5 or X5 Pro where F5 cost around 400 euro and X5 Pro around 300 euro have a lot more market for kids and young adults for mobile gaming. Also these large screen box with built in controllers we see now from Steam and the likes.

Market just full of all types of different gaming devices to pick one in all types of price range

                                    Sony should be next

Damn, that sucks hard. There's so few flagships with headphone jacks these days, let alone small ones with non-glass backs. At least they're keeping the ROG phones going.
