Anton., 28 Aug 2023They won't always be able to make a living from that, ... moreThey still get money from their smartphone camera department, Samsung phones use their cameras.

And lets not forget their licenses for movie and music industry, gaming (PlayStation), professional cameras and so on.

Compared to LG, Sony has more stuff to lean on if it goes wrong, however I rather wish LG was the one to stay and not Sony in the smartphone market.

In my country most iPhone users keep their phones 2 to 3 years, because that’s the point where the resale value is still very balanced when you sell your old phone.

But there are also people I know that keep their Android/Apple phones for 5 years.

Very sad news... They were pretty much the only brand with a modern flagship "compact" phone that not only had good battery life but also a headphone jack.

One by one, the more unique phones go away and we're stuck with massive, heavy, bland bricks that all look and feel the same...

Moki, 28 Aug 2023Asus didn't leave the Smartphone market. HTC didn... moreWith how HTC has become we can just assume they are dead.

I mean LG at least stopped making phones before going the miserable route HTC took.

                    Asus part is true.

As for people claiming Sony is next, they earn enough money elsewhere, and the hardware they put in their phones is also sold to others, their phones (Sony) are niche enough to not make a loss, they barely change anything except for the essentials and like I said the camera tech is also sold to others, so that investment comes back anyhow.

Then there is the Latino* market without leaving America. Apple sells millions! year after year, it's something that Android manufacturers dream about

Whoever can afford expensive phones is not going to keep the device for 3-4 years. Just look at comments here. Ppl accept to pay for new phone they do not need just to have latest SoC that is gonna allow them to play genshi 1fps higher than previous phone.

Do not forget, samsung was already the #1 even when S series used to get new android by march/april, while motorola just couple weeks after nexus.

Iphone is the proof. So many users (mainly in USA) get new iphone every year.

On the Zenfone series, ASUS provided a good set of features to pressure bigger names into releasing more compelling/appealing compact flagships, although some of its drawbacks prevented me from actually getting one.

Anonymous, 28 Aug 2023Not “nowadays,” but always. There used to be a time when many (in fact most) Android manufacturers were still providing only up to 2 years of OS updates and people were totally fine with it.

My guy, you are as uneducated as the kids who spammed "oh no another one left"

If only it costed about €200 less than its Samsung rival it'd be a different story. Most people who wish to buy a compact android phone don't need the latest and the greatest snapdragon chip as they don't play heavy games on it nor do they need super cameras setup. Not everyone needs to compete with iPhone, leave this to Samsung. Well now it's already too late, seemingly
