Flashback: the Sony Xperia XA Ultra had an amazing selfie camera with OIS

03 September 2023
It was among the very first phones to have this feature and Sony's implementation was better than HTC's. The XA Ultra also had an impressively large 6" display.

I would gladly buy one if they made a 2023 edition with updated internals.

- Any SoC 2 x A78 + 6 x A55
- 6GB + 64GB
- 5000mAh
- stereo speakers
- IP68 , gorilla victus front.

Rest of phone can be same.

When sony tried hard! now they look like a bumper car aimlessly...

Yes the phone's front camera is awesome. I am still using this phone as my secondary phone. Still in intact working condition with main usage of email and whatsapp.. battrery easily lasts a day even after 6 years..

Anonymous, 03 Sep 2023Sony, Apple and Samsung have 4K@60 on front. Also huawei, oppo, xiaomi, some asus phones even from around 2017 probably a couple more, some capped at 4k 30fps/1080p 60-120fps (maybe pixel 6 and 7 series?).

Huawei mate 50/60 pro does 1080p/240fps selfie with 4k 60fps, p60 pro does 4k/60fps,theres a good few of them out there even from 3-5 years ago (not just samsung, apple and sony, apple has the best variety of frame rates for selfies out of most phones tbh though.

One of the best phones they ever made. Excellent 16:9 ratio, large screen, great “OmniBalance” design, reasonable specs and competitive price. Sony has completely lost their way now.

I've had Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra for 2.5 years and it was nice phone especially front cameras with wide angle which I used most. Overall big screen 16:9 and hard to rich with one hand sometimes. Until someone helped me to accidentally drop it and screen broken it was the pleasure to use.

By the way, does anyone remember the Xperia C3 and C4. Those were even earlier phones with the concept „big mid range phone with a good selfie camera“ though they didn’t go all out on both of these specs as much as the XA Ultra. Then the C5 Ultra was closer to the XA Ultra. And they also had the T2 Ultra which had a 6 inch display as well.

I personally think the XA1 Ultra was a solid upgrade, while the XA2 Ultra was just boxy and heavy and the smaller top/bottom bezel is not as pretty in my opinion. Sony was long criticized for the big top and bottom bezels, I liked the look even if they were not that functional or necessary. But the XA2 had a fingerprint scanner which was great.

                        There's another. Thats the V21.

Except SoC, this phone was better than OP3.

back when Sony was still a contender on the midrange market.

But then they came up with Xperia 10 Plus and they shot themselves on the foot.

Thinking back, any phone with over 16mp had satisfactory lvl of detail, with 23mp from sony being the sharpest.
                              It needed just better lens.
They moved then to poor 12mp.
The same with screen, ultra size is more and more bought since we live in media age, but they release just small 6.5 and 6.1, forget folds.
It's like they like niche market.

My current smartphone has a dedicated dual LED flash for the front camera and an other phone has notification light. Phones today no longer have such features or are very rare

Yeay more Xperia flashback story after a while! 🤍✨ (serious, not sarcasm)

I had Z3. Was really amazing phone. Still remember that good old times. Build quality and design were premium. What it lacked was long software support. And it became somewhat slow after last update. Now using A52. Good phone and not laggy but build quality is cheap.
