Digdigfig, 04 Sep 2023It's not about charging speed, it's about waste. ... moreIt goes both ways. How many cables have you bought? I'm sure you are not using the one included in the box. How many will you buy? Is it really a matter of waste? I may be wrong but its how I see things at the moment.

That way of thinking is dishonest for a company, but if you had a 999w wireless charge, believe me, you would use it

Mimster, 04 Sep 2023I usually charge my iPhone over night using a small wattage... moreIt's not about charging speed, it's about waste. Why use something that only has ~50% efficiency when you can use something with ~95%? You're paying for electricity you don't use simply because you can't be bothered to plug in a cable

Digdigfig, 04 Sep 2023Wireless charging is inefficient as FUCK. People who consid... moreI usually charge my iPhone over night using a small wattage wireless charger. You don't really need 999W to charge your phone is 30s, do you? Even if you need it charged really fast, you use it for a couple of minutes and put it in your pocket, why not charge it for an extra 30 minutes with a slower charger? IDK, maybe I don't get the tech or the urge to have BIG wattage chargers. For example, people buy 35, 45, even 65w chargers for their brand new phones ignoring the recommandations, even if the phone supports only 25 watts.

Apple is AFRAID of direct competition and users escaping their walled monopoly garden.
This is how ALL fake monopolies fail: AOL, Nokia ecosystem, IBM, etc....

Oh noooooeeess. Look at Apple behaves like crybabies because they lose some profits.
Maybe stick that profit where the sun doesn't shine and just use something that isn't from the stoneage.
And if a locked in walled garden is what will save Apple here, then I think Apple have a HUGE problem going.
Because good products is what keeps peoples to a brand and not lock ins.

> Apple is worried that if users have accessories that are cross-compatible with Android phones, they will be more likely to jump over the fence of Apple’s walled garden. Gurman gives iMessage as an example – Apple could add RCS support and make iOS-to-Android messaging much better, but then people won’t be chained to iOS as much as they are now. Also, remember when FaceTime was going to be open source?
So they just admitted that they really want users to stuck with their products forever? Geez capitalism.

justasmile, 04 Sep 2023Yeah, and make the charging 250W, and let the phone's ... moreThe fact that wireless charging actually generate heat more similar to fast charging. But the worse thing is, while both technology can logically reduce your battery life, one can actually help you charger faster, while the other one is just... "fashion". Ngl what's so hard with connecting your cable to your phone until you guys really need a technology where you're able to charger your phone with just put it on a charger pad?

Billions in lost revenues from a proprietary cable sure sounds worrisome for such a company
All they care about is their profits. If they were actually worried about their users then the back glass replacement for example would not cost a fortune
