Anonymous, 06 Sep 2023Actually I compared the Pixel 7 Pro with the S23 Ultra'... moreWell, with me it was totally different, the 30x was good in a medium distance, the 50x was rubbish, photos of the moon were lousy, compared to my old s21 ultra! The zoom up to 3x is fine, after that very bad, maybe my lens was wrong but the procedure at those distances leaves much to be desired, I hope they fix that on the pixel 8 pro

Wonder if x100proplu... moreActually I compared the Pixel 7 Pro with the S23 Ultra's periscope in a store and when I used Google's short Night Sight mode, the 10x or 15x (can't remember which one) zoom setting of the 7 Pro was at least as good or maybe even slightly better and this actually can make sense because the 7 Pro has more pixels per distant object than the S23 Ultra, so at 15x, it actually needs to upscale less(!) than the S23 Ultra. Though I know that each Pixel 7 Pro behaves differently, some Pixel 7 Pro units are sharper than others.

Not really relevant, but note that 85mm/24mm is approximately 3.5 , not 4. Apple's previous tele camera had a 77mm field of view (77/24 = 3.2). So 85mm instead of 77mm and 12.7 megapixels instead of 12.2 megapixels would only give you approximately 1.1x as much "reach" as previously. Only in low light conditions you would get noticeably more reach due to the larger effective lens diameter.

"Thanks to the ingenious design of the double-layer transistor, it can effectively improve the signal-to-noise ratio even in dark light environments. Our unique 1/1.9-inch 85mm f2.8 new periscope structure, combined with the vertical lens, constitutes a new The powerful imaging system of the first generation iPhone. Under the limited thickness, we also reduced the hole diameter to 6mm, so that the characters can be seen clearly. Pro-level video, great movie".

Also, if it has exmor T of 1/1.9" , then this can match exmor RS 1/1.5" ..

I have the S23 Ultra, but honestly, I haven't used that x10 even once (well tried that moon shot and once a rabbit from far). For me, the quality is just bad (good as for smartphones maybe, but as I have spent most of my life working with cameras I am just twisted) and I cannot force myself to use it. My dream mobile is something with lens equivalents to maybe 16, 24, and around 45mm. I don't need anything else. And yes, the S23 Ultra is not the best choice given the above, but it was the best that I could get on the market in my country (do not count iPhone, had it, and will not go back).

Lens fixed at 85 mm that is gonna rely on digital zoom for anything beyond.

Why is it fixed FL? Because it is cheaper to make.
