Sam N8 808 owner, 07 Sep 2023To be honest, if everyone is banning something or the other... moreWell nothing is safe, of course, but in cases like this the ban could also be because they themselves don't have enough control over it. Or even because they just want to encourage using home-made products (Which is really not a bad thing).

The chinese government should ban all western phones and use only domestic china phones... and feel the wrath of Shenzhen's proud Techno Mobile's very annoying pop-up Ads every minute in their phones... and soon they will realized that their domestic phones were pure garbage. :)

Lyrical, 07 Sep 2023Man they are not banning iPhones in China. The article says... moreBut the mistreatment of Huawei by western countries, continuous sanctions, and the jailing of Huawei CFO in Canada, can be used to stir national pride. If I were a Chinese, I'd support homegrown stuff free from US control.
Unlike other US "allies" like Japan who allowed Uncle Sam to destroy their economy in the 80's chip war, these guys are aren't fooling around.

Anonymous, 07 Sep 2023China always one step behind They probably waited till they are in a position to strike back. An iPhone ban in 2019 would have backfired on the CPC vs a ban today following the release of the Mate 60 Pro. A symbol of national pride and opposition to current sanctions.

To be honest, if everyone is banning something or the other, it essentially proves to the customers that nothing they're buying is safe from the big eyes.
Except maybe a non-updated Symbian.

I wonder if ppl that wrongly insist that H's ban was done to benefit Apple when it has zero to do with this now also think this is to benefit H.

hmm, 07 Sep 2023You think that's allowed in communism country for offi... moreHuawei was never sold officially on the US.
They got banned just months before they launched a carrier deal with AT&T (there were leaked photos of some carrier variants devices).
So highly unlikely any official government, aside from some weirdos, were using Huawei devices in the US to begin with. Maybe in other countries they were.

This in relation to world wide marketing reports will only give an upper hand to Samsung (even if it results to hauwei market share increase there will be more spaces for Samsung to take in China particular)
But I don't see it that easy for Apple to lose that second spot.

Munio, 07 Sep 2023It wouldn't. iPhone sales in China is about 24% of all... moreYou think that's allowed in communism country for officials. There is probably already a mindset like fallow the orders in there culture.
Never mind that apple for China is like a physical spyware, just like for America was Huawei.
You think any American government official kept any Huawei device after the brand was banned ? For there family use or something ?

Lyrical, 07 Sep 2023Man they are not banning iPhones in China. The article says... moreStop focusing on the article title itself, the Chinese have a target and it ought to start somewhere (even if they have reasons for this ban at the present)
Personally I'm sure it will affect Apple somehow as time goes on, you don't need to be educated on how politics and tech works
