I've honestly always loved Sony designs. Simple, functional, no nonsense. Absolutely form follows function instead of chasing silly trends like curved screens or weird ways of trying to hide the selfie cam (remember pop up/slide out/fold out selfie cams??) Most companies have given up and just leave a notch or hole.
Some people whine about how ugly a bezel is but anyone can whine equally about how ugly a hole in a screen is.
But at the end of the day, a bezel WORKS. They can stick selfie cams and stereo speakers in there. It's just functional.
And so is having a headphone jack and sd card. They're great if you want to do any actual work with the phone. Professional level headphones or microphones use the 3.5mm jack, and it's great if you're looking for quality.
Everyone else seems to be catering to casual users. And yes, that includes "enthusiasts" who chase benchmark numbers but in the end, don't really use their phones for much more than casual gaming or point-and-shoot photography. Losing functionality for style is the trend for mass market phones. Sony is one of the few still making a pro level device.
I just wish they maintained longer support.

Premium brands are those that make products midclass and poor can never afford.
Rolex is premium.
Ferrari is premium.
In USA even people that make $8,00/hour have iphone.

The xperia 5 v is £850 which is about the same price as an s23+ aswell so really its about in line with general pricing.

Almost all sensors are made there, part is made at TSMC in Taiwan.
Both are building facility in Tokyo together.
Not everything is in Southeast Asia.

Just an example, S23 Ultra costs 1000 right now and gives 8/256, telephoto/periscope sensor, better software support, under display fingerprint so...much better deal. But there are others.grphone

Also, every flagship phone with only 2 OS updates should at least be released in the first half of the year imo.

Chinese phones are even cheaper. I can get OnePlus 11 16GB/256GB for $600 incl tax
