Flashback: the time when SIM cards and microSD cards merged into one

24 September 2023
The so-called SuperSIM did the job of both, but the end result was less than the sum of its parts.

ReaLogic, 24 Sep 2023Looking at the homemade supersim. Seems like filing down is... moreThat would still require some sanding, both are simply too thick when combined. In theory, an operator might release a super thin SIM card for this purpose (or vice versa, a microSD vendor), but this is such a niche product (how many of the general population even consider this?) I don't believe it's worth an extra production line and the associated support call when people break their thin cards.

And now you pay 1000 euros for a phone with no storage and no SD card slot ...meanwhile a 120 euro phone has 256g and SD card slot ...
Yeah Samsung and apple really are the best at exploiting customers

Tecno, infinix has the best idea when it comes to that. Their tray's are back to back the other side is dual sim and the other is micro sd

Don't know why GSMArena would compare an SD card for mobile devices to SSDs for PCs in price. Doesn't sound relevant for it since the use case is completely different.

On the other hand, SUPERSIM probably couldn't be implemented since these can be quite pricey. Unless there's a method of registering SIM cards into a more open or blank SUPERSIM, one of these would probably cost 10 times the price of a cheap plan. Would've made it difficult for them to buy one anyway. NM cards are cool tho.

Top selling card in a local online shop is a $10 512gb sandisk card. They don't know about fakes or orginals. Or that original ones have varying speeds depending on their classification.

The absolute state of consumer world. Hope Huawei sticks to their Nano memory.

Samsung still manufactures microsd slot but none of their S21-S23 users can utilize them. 😂

I have a android phone which i bought in 2015.
I have 2 SD cards, 1 i bought in year 2012 and another i bought in year 2013.
In those year when i bought those SD cards, i have the need to store files and use daily.
But in year 2023 i don't need SD cards and in my primary phone i don't have or use SD card.
Still i kept 2 SD cards and 1 android phone as back up to store and run most important files if i need them in future.
Can't trust cloud in the age of AI, who knows when they turn off my access because they don't like my comments😅.

Super SIM is a great idea! Why not?
Not many know dual SIM feature was originated from China.
Now it has become a standard for today's mobile phone.

                          Let the anons’ opportunity begin!

I was honestly into the NanoMemory card idea from Huawei until their CEO said they wanted to make a profit out of it instead of opening it up as a standard.

It solves many crying kids problems.
Tons of childrens everywhere bragging for ancient technologies which have no space or place in 2023.
                                I am glad for that.
World needs to move forward not backwards. NO matter how you look at it.

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2023sd card for the win FTWYou mean super sim for the win. SD cards are now only for low end phones.

Well for those still bragging for an SD slot just buy SUPERSIM problem is solved kidds.
And for those bragging for jack just use USB-C earphones or go wireless as every other guy or girl on the planet and stop being drama queen like Adele or Kate Moss.

KondriX, 24 Sep 2023I for example would never buy a phone without a microSD slo... moresomebody would said: "sd cards make your phone slower!! do you want your flagship perofrm like cheapo device??????????? sd card is stone age technology. just use cloud service!!!!!"
the phone market is so screwed up ngl, we would have to resort on buying low end device or neither spend more on xperia. just to get both features. they think they live in year 3000 to call 3.5mm jack and sd card is ancient.
