EU is so anti-competitive that they want these companies to take away their own competitive edges.
I use Google to search but get Bing results.
I use WhatsApp to message a Signal user.
Android apps on iPhones.
Make it make sense.

Nobody is talking about why you need internet to activate iphone on first glance of operation.
Still activation lock was put there on purpose to limit second user or ease of device trade after relatives pass on.
Literally when the phone gets too hot it doesn't charge.
Slow charging features, people silent about the maximum zoom noise in the 15 Pro max.
Some apps not available on app store like total football.
I've used apple products and android, literally gave out all my old apple products and stayed with more android product because each has more features and not like the app store limitations

Just because you can drive over thorny bush doesn't mean you should. Most people with common sense won't, same way, just because you can install apps from stores like fdroid doesn't mean that you go ahead anf download any random APK from web and then blame android security. I have been using android and iPhone side by side for years now and I can safely say that android is secured at the level of iOS if not better or worse which is subjective opinion but anybody who says that they want to be in a closed ecosystem has never tasted freedom. While I love my iPhone as a sketch pad, I have one iPhone and 4 android devices including Android tablets, Chromebook etc. But I don't have any sensitive information on iPhone.

Can your Apple devices simply disable the motion sensors without jailbreak? Androids can, without rooting. The FBI thing was all a drama, tell me, why didn't FBI approach NSA?
Plus, on a national security level (which is basically, American security level), none of these devices are safe anymore. What control does it give you, reg. your data? All apps are leaking data like anything. Apple's privacy policy is also aloof from privacy.
Apple is only considered safe due to restrictions it imposes on users. Which is like saying to a cop, "Send me to prison, I'll be safe there".

What EU is doing will definitely affect rest of the world too, so the influence is bigger.
I hope they continue doing this.
The competition has almost died in various areas of smartphone software and services.

Anonymous, 29 Sep 2023EU doesnt aim, need or want to compete with Apple, its a go... moreSure it's to protect customers, but it's very suspicious of them that they do this to "protect" when it's only Apple being affected by it. I mean, this closed off ecosystem is what Apple does. That what's make Apple, well Apple. And now you're getting this commissioner proposing that Apple be just be more open. Like wtf. Of course the EU isn't a company. That's so obvious lmfao. Apple in a free and legal market is making that 💲💰💲🤑! Next thing you know the EU is gonna make a suspicious law making Apple use other chipsets! 😂

I literally chose iPhone and Macs because of their unique and exclusive ecosystem and it's better to stay that way maybe especially for security. Idk what this commissioner is thinking??

If Apple was EU owned it would be exact same for EU since they would pay the same taxes, if you want to sell your product in EU market you need to comply with regulations that aim to protect EU customers, and with USB C change it helped whole world

You as a user, agreed to take all responsibility for any problems that arised from enabling side loading and wants someone else to be responsible. This is your problem and not the manufacturer. Just because something didn't work out for you doesn't mean that side loading (which others use) should be removed.

The US government needs to punish Apple and Google for anti trust practices just like they did to Microsoft in 2001.

In an alternative world, you could get the same product at a much lesser cost because of competition. Android is terrible too because of lack of competitors but one thing that keeps salvaging it is that it's open source so it's packaged in a thousand different ways with the hope that companies get it right more than others. The fact that we've been living in an Apple-Android duopoly for so long is *insane*.

Good to see a large governing body like the EU put these tech companies in their place.
