The reporting on this has been a bit all over the place since day 1 and thus inconsistent. In fact pretty much the only constant has been iOS 17 itself…..

Chip would not overheat because of OS system.
      It is chip/fab issue.

No other device on iOS17 is having same issue. Apple is gonna reduce chip performance easily by 10% to mask heat.

Ottonis, 02 Oct 2023It is kind of funny that it is entirely irrelevant whether ... moreEvery manufacturer has issues like these...it's just because Apple is so huge that people like you memorize each year's issues.

will apple fix the tinny speaker issue? on many people's devices, if their media reaches above around 80% volume, the top speaker becomes tinny and sounds terrible. The iphone 15 series (especially the pros) seems like its going to be a flop.

It is kind of funny that it is entirely irrelevant whether Apple acknowledges a problem or not: people will still keep on bying iPhones as if there is no tomorrow.
Remember the antenna-gate some years ago? Or the intentional slowing down of phones...?
Doesn't matter, people just move on as nothing ever happened.

This article didn't mention what 3rd party apps that causes the heat. Let me tell you, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) apps that caused it. I read this news yesterday. And another one case, BMW wireless charging cause all iPhone 15 model (vanilla and pro) to reboot and damage the NFC chip when using BMW wireless charging (the car). I'll bet it's got to do with BMW app 🙄
