02 October 2023
The company's memory chip business posted its first loss in 14 years in Q1. Production of DRAM and NAND chips will be reduced to deal with the slump in demand.

Who needs more storage these days of cloud computing?
Well some need probably.
But i am ok with 64 GB on my phone as i don't use my phone as a large storage device.
Files i keep in either on cloud storage or in desktop storage.
Most important files, large files etc which i might need in future, i keep them in desktop storage.
Files that i need while walking on street, i keep them in my phone and cloud.
Thus, i don't need to buy more storage for my phone.
4K takes large storage but i don't record those on my phone as i know 1080p is enough for me.
My TV is not 4K, Desktop monitor is not 4K, so recording or keeping such large 4K contents is just reading 4K not watching it for me and i am not going to upgrade any of those before 2030 as those gadgets are working well in my home.

China banned micron from all gov... moreMicron are banned by the Chinese government from being used in key Chinese infrastructure projects but this has no effect on selling to smartphone companies (apart from Huawei). Samsung and SK Hynix are not banned from key infrastructure projects in China (it's up to the companies themselves whether they want to supply the Chinese government with chips for key infrastructure projects). I'm well aware of the Huawei ban which extends to all companies using US tech in the manufacture of their products and requires them to apply for a special license to supply Huawei. Anyway, my point was relating to smartphones/consumer electronics as that is what this site is focused on. There is no ban on supplying memory chips to Chinese consumer electronic brands (apart from Huawei)

The newest rumor is that Huawei is working hard on an CMOS sensor to rival Sony and Samsung. It's even possible to launch it with a new phone in October. If that's the case, western industry is going down to drain.
