zaryan, 03 Oct 2023you know what after this whole electronic privacy debate ,... moreJust because Google spies on you, you assume Apple spies on you too? That’s like saying „I get regularly assaulted by a family member so everyone has to get regularly assaulted by a family member.“

Vikass17, 03 Oct 2023I always prefer buying new phones over updates. 3 years is ... moreThat’s a wasteful attitude especially considering how marginal the improvements in hardware have become. And wasteful not even primarily in terms of environment, it seems like a big waste of money too.

You mean the update that not even Google cared about at their I/O event? Meanwhile Apple brings an iOS update that is received as having many small additions all around and having less issues than iOS 16 (except on iPhone 15). Even the OEMs that use Android and put a skin on top do better than Google themselves.

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2023That's why you should buy a decent Samsung phone. You ... moreThis is why I always get them weeks or sometimes a month after they are released.. They should do it global like Apple.

im confused about its transparent navigation bar, i want to make it solid black in all apps (as some make it white which looks really dumb when you have blackmode app with nasty white navbar at the bottom) not transparent? possible?

zaryan, 03 Oct 2023you know what after this whole electronic privacy debate ,... moreThe only way to maximize privacy on a phone is to run a open source privacy-focused custom os. Grapheneos for the pixels as an example

whatever device you buy it's particular manufacturer will spy on you regardless
whether it is Apple, Google or some Chinese brand they will use your data
so in end you have no privacy whatsoever

Troy, 03 Oct 2023how the heck pixel 4a getting android 14 but not pixel 4xl ... morePerhaps the information is incorrect because the Pixel 4a (4G) has already received 3 software updates starting with Android 10 and is currently running Android 13 as promised by Google. If it received a fourth software update for Android 14, that would be fantastic.

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2023That's why you should buy a decent Samsung phone. You ... moreI always prefer buying new phones over updates. 3 years is enough with one old phone.
4 update phones take 50% extra just for 2 more updates. Doesn't make much sense.
If i buy new Android 14 phone , I get latest OS pre-installed for one year.
                                2 updates = 15, 16 and 1 year until Android 17 comes.
After that buy Android 17 phone. this way you keep hardware and software both latest.

It looks like Google is pushing their "Topics" and "Privacy Sandbox" spyware into the OS. (Spoiler alert, it's anti-privacy) I've already nuked Chrome to avoid that bullshit. Hopefully the OS components can be easily disabled or I'll need to root my brand new phone.
