I guess these are the things that test peoples morals. Do you rather buy a phone that's made in s place. With low salary, for the people making it, in very bad working conditions and people, who allow that to go on. In many levels. Or do you buy a phone, with same features, for more price and people getting paid better, from the phones sales .... most people will ofcource choose the features and price. Over where it's made and how.

But hopefully at least enough people keep buying the Nokia HMD phones, to keep the sales steady and possibly going up.

DarlingYext, 03 Oct 2023"..HMD Global is now manufacturing 5G smartphones in E... moreOnly partly wholesome. As an EU citizen myself I would've been thrilled to have a phone manufactured in my coutry. Just not this piece of junk.

Do you realise the audacity to claim 3 years of OS updates, but then to release a premium Android smartphone running on 12 while 14 is legit released tomorrow ? With an antique, museum grade 450 nits IPS display...and EUR700 price tag ! You know what else is 700 ? The numbers of days since this garbage chip was released. That's right, almost 2 years !

I mean yes by all means moving manufacturing back to europe is great, but to manufacture this ? Well no thanks.

SShock, 03 Oct 2023Jesus, Snapdragon 695 again? How many more years they'... moreThis is literally identical to the normal XR21 launched in May, except for the colour/finish, being assembled in Europe, numbered engraving, and a special box and certificate of origin. It's not a new device, so yes it's using the same chipset.

The price is because they are only producing 50 units of which 30 are for open sale. It's for collectors. With that said, the regular XR21 is still too expensive and has barely lowered in price since launch.

Mobilemaster, 03 Oct 2023No, this is NOT HMD. What the first 2 sentences are saying ... moreThis article is about HMD's European manufacturing (assembly) and the Nokia XR21 Limited Edition and European Edition which are assembled in Hungary.

The devices you are referring to are by the German company i.safe Mobile and use the new branding/logo of Nokia Oyj.

HMD recently announced their intention to launch their own branded devices and working with other partners, their license for the Nokia brand for phones and tablets expires in 2026 and they are already beginning to pivot away from it.

Jesus, Snapdragon 695 again? How many more years they'll keep on rolling out this ancient chipset? And still LCD? For that price? EU manufacturing or not, wtf is Nokia smoking? At this point even Fairphone makes more sense.

Hugo, 03 Oct 2023Mate, atleast read the first line of the article before com... moreNo, this is NOT HMD. What the first 2 sentences are saying could be interpreted in a wrong way. HMD also makes rugged phones indeed, but these Nokia phones are not made by HMD. Even the word Nokia is written different on those phones, and even those names are not like HMD Nokia phones have.
I have shared a link with you from another site, but it has to be approved for some reason.

Hemedans, 03 Oct 2023Sony? Aren't they only Oem with Open hardware program?... moreNo, Verizon in the US demanded that Sony block ALL bootloader unlocking on ALL NA models (yes, even unlocked phones), and then didn't follow through on selling them. Plus, without root, Sony doesn't even support VoWiFi on T-Mobile. (They may on AT&T or Verizon, I'm not certain.) So even the carrier unlocked models aren't fully supported on ANY US/CAN carrier, and it's impossible to fix like you could in past generations. And before any suggests importing a European or Asian model, remember that the band differences make that a nonstarter as well.

Nostalgic. 20 years ago I bought a Nokia phone made in Hungary and that was the first time I was hearing about that country. My brother who had a made in Finland(I think) higher end model used to tease me that mine's a cheaper model produced in a cheaper country. So my image of Hungary then was similar to today's China.
