Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro debut with Tensor G3, new ultrawide cameras

04 October 2023
The Pixel 8 shrinks down to a 6.2-inch display but it's now 120Hz-ready.

The 9-core CPU does sound interesting, but I'm still not convinced about Samsung's SoC fabrication. If Samsung is going to show that they have improved their fabrication process, then this is the best chance to do it. If Samsung did a great job with Tensor G3, then we should have no problem with the upcoming Exynos 2400.

I think Google just won the smartphone game.

I think it is 7 years of security updates. I don't think it is going to get up until Android 21.

Apart from the larger battery, what pro does it have against S23?
I am looking for a small phone and S23 is the only option available so far. So trying to see if this is any better.

The big question for mobile experts.
For those who want to renew or buy a mobile phone, which one would they choose between Samsung S23 vs Pixel 8 and why is one better than the other? The why is important for there to be logical reasoning.

Ah yes, the thermometer we've all been asking for. Can't wait to try it out on a couple of things on the first day and forget it's there for the next few years.

The pre-order deal for Europe is so bad. I get that in the US you pay state tax and it's more than $999 and for Europe you have import taxes, but the 128GB 8 Pro offer is 1099euro + 229euro discount on the watch and the watch is 399euro so in total you end up paying 1269euro for the bundle ($1334). Probably skipping and waiting for a Black Friday drop without the watch.

That's quite a price bump for the Pro, and with 128gb. Hopefully the performance and battery will be worth it.

7 years of OS support is misleading by GSM .

its 5 years OS and 7 years security updates. Its almost on par with iPhone. My first gen SE recently received security update recently.

Good job by google for this long support though

Nice, 7 years of updates. Google finally did what they should have done with first Pixel years ago. This is really so long the updates anxiety just doesn't exist anymore on Pixel phones. And although they are costly devices, it's easier to justify the price when you're assured to get updates through its entire life cycle.

Why in hell they didn't do this before lol? I was looking at Pixel 7 Pro and then decided not to go with it because of just 3 years of major updates and just generally terrible availability in EU with alright price. There were some, but at 1000€, nope. I ended up paying more for Galaxy S23 Ultra few months later, but I got much more space, much more capable chipset, longer software support.

Next phone though, I might actually look at Pixel next. In some 5 years or so, probably.
