7 years updates eh, well that’s more like it. Though will have to see if Google stick to their word and don’t have a sudden change of heart somewhere down the line. Cause it’s Google after all, they are know for that sort of thing……

When the nothing phone 2 released for a high price and a crappy old chip, everybody complained. Now that Google is doing the same, is it different?
Anyway, waiting for battery tests since the 7 was so bad at it

7 YEARS !? Wow !
I do wonder about the battery health, which probably will take 2-4 years before noticing it.
I can't care for now, I will wait until I have more money. Probably, I will buy pixel 10 in the future if the support is that long.

I will probably get this one when it is on sale. €800 is too much for any phone IMO. Let alone a phone with ANY compromise such as the design, rounded corners, rounded back, curved sides, etc, etc. I'm personally not willing to pay more than $500 / €500 for a phone with any compromises, but I'd probably go up to €600 for this one since it is Google and plain Android with 7 years of updates. Maybe I can pick it up during Christmas time.

Regarding updates,7 years of OS and security updates does not exceed the iPhone's.
My mom's 6s plus just got a security update last month which counts Apple's support to 9 years (including security updates) soo..
This year's vanilla pixel seems comfortable though, might wait sometime before finalising a purchase decision ( heat issues )

Extremely minor upgrades except the SoC, and a major price jump. 8 series is a poor value. Buy a 7 on discount or wait for the 9.

What do we have here
No GN2 despite all the speculation (this could've helped justify the price increase) the new Tensor G3 is better but still not on S8G2 level, let alone S8G3.
Being released this late in the year, the Pixel should have 2024 level hardware (like Apple and the A17) but actually Tensor G3 barely keeps up with the S8+G1 from 2022. That's two gens late in my book.
This would be a lot more forgivable if google kept their "below a grand" pricing policy but they dropped it for this year's release. This makes the price gap between the Pixel Pro and the Galaxy Ultra/iPhone Pro Max too little to be relevant.
That's right, Pixel 8 Pro STARTS at 200€ more than last year. Same Samsung GN1 as last year (even though it officially reached EOL) same two gens behind chip (let's just call it mid-range at this point) and same base storage (even Apple doubled that). All that and +200€ ?
From Google 8 to Google hate there's a only a couple hundreds euros.

Crazy is it's true that it's 7 OS updates. That CLEARLY can't be done with Snapdragon so ya gotta take the bad (processor) with the good.
Shame Google will never meet my hardware needs. Good for those who are good with it.

Having two X1 was insane, even if they went to TSMC to manufacture it.

In that case Google has killed everyone else in terms of software support.
Now only remains to see if the hardware matches up with the performance ( no heating or anything else).
Great move in terms of Software.
Personally I like Pixel 8 design.
