imparanoic, 11 Oct 2023Size of the units and each mid refresh and how smaller they... moreWell no one stops Sony from using a smaller fab node like 4nm to make the PS5 slim significantly smaller like it should.

PS5 proving itself to be a really unappealing, expensive console.
Years after release, it's still going nowhere and anyone can see XBOX is just a much better deal all around.

Lmaooo another price hike? I really don't understand why anyone would pay the insane prices for these consoles, especially considering the game selection...

DeepIn2U, 11 Oct 2023Too big, cause it's 4 years old?! Lol You must'... moreSize of the units and each mid refresh and how smaller they get partial depends how smaller the die size of the cpu get, note each gen and mid refreshes the difference gets smaller and die size does not decrease that much

note the reason why earlier generation PlayStations became significantly smaller, you need to look at die size

          PlayStation 2 - 250nm
          PlayStation 2 slim 90nm
          PlayStation 3 - 90nm
          PlayStation 3 slim - 65nm
          PlayStation 3 super slim - 45nm
          PlayStation 4 - 28nm
          PlayStation 4 slim /pro 16nm
          PlayStation 5 - 7nm
          PlayStation 5 slim - 6nm
As u can see size of die is increasingly less and less difference between refreshes, that's why it can't get smaller

DeepIn2U, 11 Oct 2023Too big, cause it's 4 years old?! Lol You must'... moreBut the big problem is right now Sony is getting rid of Phat PS5 models (disc version) and there are some great deals out there like PS5 and EAFC23 for £410. Which is £70 cheaper than a PS5 slim with disc drive. Could buy the oroginal PS5 and buy a 1tb SSD drive and it still cost less than a PS5 slim.

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2023Still too big considering the hardware being 4 years oldToo big, cause it's 4 years old?! Lol

You must've never been with Sony Playstation since thr beginning .

Every 3-4yrs a slim model debuts since PS2. EACH TIME much smaller by volume and more efficient, yet previous models lost functionality in thr cpu.

Glad this year no lost functionality, plus ability to add thr Blu-Ray player if considered later - boosting sales of the internet edition and thisll show Sony if Blu-Ray should or shouldn't be further invested in down the road.

Although no Miles Morales Spider-Man version this fall which I'm saddened by. Hoojng NVME speeds get a boost?

All in all great volume and weight savings considering the power it delivers ans once again Sony has proven thr Playstation IS KING of consoles with a bright future!

„One of the panel opens access to the new Ultra HD Blu-ray drive, which is now removable on the new consoles. You can also purchase the drive separately now and attach it to your Digital Edition console to get disc functionality, or if your existing drive failed for some reasons.“

                    That is very nice

                      light weight okay but small?

Finally! been holding off purchasing PS5 due to it being huge!

I promise you 1000% the Disk Drive wil hit "production issues". To either normalize selling the digital edition just because they don't want you to have CDs anymore and/or because they want you to buy the disk drive at an extra cost separately.

Now this is a ps5, congrats on getting removable driver, thats hella nice. Really cool the new ps5

How will this impact the cooling

And can people actually get their hands on this model without issues like when the ps5 just dropped?

Does the PS5 really need a separate stand to be placed vertically?
