Anonymous, 10 Oct 2023Where is PS5 pro?I'm not sure of Sony's plans here.
Last time their variants only had small internal changes, until they announced a more changed revision as the PS4 Slim. And alongside that they announced the PS4 Pro. You would think they would emulate their previous tactics.
This release here feels like a PS5 Slim. Perhaps they will release a PS5 Pro in the next 12-18 months. And they will do another "slim" upgrade several years down the line, and then officially call that the "PS5 Slim". They sort of did a similar thing with the PS3, which had three distinct form-factors: Base, Slim, and Super Slim.
Sony might be wise to do a PS5 Pro this generation, as it will win them the "performance crown" from the Xbox Series X. And because this Console Generation is respectively "overpowered" there is a strong tendency that it will be a looooong generation. So having the PS5 Pro will make it age more gracefully. Contrast that with the previous Console Generation where the PS4 was underpowered and the introduction of the PS4 Pro was more of a necessity, since that Console Generation didn't age too well (the PS3 didn't age too well either, the PS2 aged much better, and the PS1 aged the best, again taking things into account like what type of gaming experience was expected in its day respectively).
