Unfortunately, this is an ugly handset. I *really* wished that the first android would be cool - or at least - cute. HTC seems to be really halfassed about Android. What a pity.

To ensure widescale use in the market, the android platform could have been launched on a very attractive hardware platform possibly subsidised and available prepay. This would attract a wide range of consumers. This device will not sell well in my view particularly with its ridiculous price tag. Not an ideal showcase for android.

you guys are all talking about this phone like you have it in your hands and have been using it for awhile it is the tmobile version of the famed iphone with a full keypad so who cares if you cant transfer files via bluetooth it looks like u cheapskates are going to have to start buying ur ringtones now there is nothing wrong with the way it looks and it has alot of good features google is a genius and as for the other makers (moto, samsung, etc) they are already on board with switching to the android platform to get away from bill "i freeze up every day" gates windows you all will be praising this phone in a couple of months like you guys do with every other phone

-Indeed is a disappointment for me to but I will buy this phone any time over the iPhone because iPhone disappointed me TWICE because of the missing VIIDEEOO camera in the front;
So, if at&t does not announce ( I Think) samsung omnia (Witch has a video camera in the front for video call) until october I will go for G1

Give Android some time. As the article says HTC has put little effort in this and while I think it's a decent device for what it is, Android is a long term proposition and we'll have to wait to see more compelling devices.

To make it hit the market to bit the iPhone they should be the problems that the iPhone did and they should not limit the use of bluetooth that's why people buy phone or gadgets to able to use in the office and in other ways not to use as telephone "landline"

maybe google thought apple threw together a half arsed peice of crap at a high price and all those suckers bought it(infact they did it twice)so why dont we will save lots of cash by leaving out any useful features as apple have proved a fool and his money are easily parted....

What a disappointment...we were waiting a phone similar to iphone capabilities...but with no restrictions of contracts,full bluetooth usabilty,beter camera,VIDEO...We were waiting google to change all those restrictions iphone has,and add more features...But...it is really sad...that Windows Mobile seems to be the most "open" operating system...I will have to stand my HTC crashes...It doesnt matter that it does most of the thing a little crashy...I have no restriction there...

I agree. Why do these companies insist on not including video? My friend used to work at moto on the razr, and he said that video was available early on that phone, but that they disabled it so that they could add a 'new' feature later on when sales started slipping. The iphone can play very impressive interactive games now, but it still can't even send a simple mms message.

I'm hoping that Sony Ericsson ditches WinMo and goes for Android instead. Nokia will never use Android, and Samsung and LG make boring handsets. Save us SE!!

Obviously it is quite disappointed with all the hype around Android and Google phone.
But it is not too bad. And saying "thanks, but no thanks" is a bit too harsh.

You're completely missing the big picture. Since anyone can develop apps for this, and since the entire OS is customizable, its really only a matter of time before all of your complaints are addressed. And besides, to compare it to Crapple's product, it does everything and then some, plus a full keypad, plus (and I hope i'm not the only one who noticed) it supports flash!! And why do people think the design is poor? Looks great to me, even in white.
