Xiaomi CEO announces HyperOS, first to arrive with the Xiaomi 14 series

The new operating system will remain AOSP, fused with the in-house Vela system for IoT.

Based on AOSP, like vanilla? If so I'm excited. I like Android flavors that don't stray too far away from AOSP but still offer its own characteristics, like Nothing OS.

Also, this name reminds me of an old custom ROM called "Havoc OS". That was one of the best ROMs I've ever used.

                          Vikass17, 17 Oct 2023They already said next version of harmony OS won't sup... moreMany people still think that Harmony OS is AOSP based. They are wrong. Harmony OS is based on micro kernel (not Linux like AOSP).

                          But when it's not mature yet especially when it comes to availability of the apps, Huawei decided to put AOSP layer on it. So it can runs Android apps.

                          So, when native Harmony OS apps are available more and more, Huawei will ditch the AOSP layer. So it can run lighter and smoother. The other consequences are Harmony OS won't run Android apps anymore and can't run apps with Google Service integration.

                          Last but not least, many people think Harmony OS (China) is the same as EMUI (global). No, they are different. Android based custom OS can't ditch Android layer on it because they are based on Android itself.

For the cars it appears they intend to design and possibly even manufacture them themselves. Definitely, I think the cars are a big factor into the design of the OS going forward
