Weekly poll: the OnePlus Open is here, who is buying one?

22 October 2023
While there are plenty of foldables in China, most brands lack the global reach of OnePlus, which has left the North American and European markets pretty bare.

For me it's not a matter of "I don't want a horizontal foldable". It's "I don't want a foldable."

There are no variables, it's just as simple as NO.

This phone will not be my next phone. Having one of these phones be my next phone is the highest honor bestowed to a phone. In my current situation, midrange Androids are best for me, and my current one is still under 1 year old.

However, this phone in my opinion is the best foldable. If I had the money and wanted a foldable, this would be the phone I'd get. But despite beating all other foldables out there, this will not be my next phone.

Anton., 22 Oct 2023Where is that exchange offer?Currently on their website, because the phone hasn't been yet released, I believe only on the 26th can you order it. I also understand that Amazon will give you a 200$ discount for the same thing, but I don't know much about that

hl2, 22 Oct 2023I don't really need/want a foldable, but this one'... moreIt's currently cheaper than the fold 5 or the pixel fold and is on par with the Honor magic vs (which is 1 year old and has considerably weaker hardware). It also starts at 512 gb which the others don't. And if you give any old or new phone to OnePlus you will get at least 200$ discount. I looked it up and if i give up my iPhone 13 pro max 128 gb I can get around 750$. So where did this phone's price shock you?

Don't know why they're called foldables. I mean they don't actually fold. More like "Open" 😊

I don't really need/want a foldable, but this one's price is really offensive! These guys lost it.

Where is the option for a simple "no"?

None of the options provided are what my actual answer is.

Reading some of the comments here gave me a headache. Some are saying that the foldable market is a gimmick, even if I'm starting to see them more and more (mostly from Samsung) and the market statistics say that the foldable market is evergrowing. Some say they want a premium flagship with full specs which also folds at 1000$, 700$, one moron even said 500$. I've also read that they are useless and too big and fragile, even if the Open has the exact same thickness as an iPhone 15 pro max with a case, maybe even thinner. This phone brings a foldable screen, the best Snapdragon processor, 512gb rom/16 gb ram, triple flagship grade cameras, 2 120 hz adaptive displays that can go down to 10 hz and even 1 hz!!! It has fast charging, comes with the charger in the box, comes with a protective case, will be updated for 5 years and it's currently the cheapest big brand foldable out there and people still find the shittiest things to complain about. Why do people still bitch about a headphone jack in 2023? Which flagship phone has that anymore? You don't buy a 1700$ phone to connect wired headphones to it, my god. A 3.5 mm jack is useful sometimes, but those times are rare and if it's soooo important to you just get an adapter, it's like 5 bucks.
If you want to be close minded fine by me, but this mentality was the exact same when we started using touchscreen instead of buttons and everyone said that it's crap and that it won't stick.
My biggest concern regarding the Open is the durability aspect for the inner screen. Every review we see is with the phones brand new and no one talks about the long term. I wanna hear from someone who used a foldable for the last 1-2 years about how the inner screen behaves. Did pixels die? Did the screen protector crack or form bubbles or simply peeled off? These are the questions we have to ask, not why isn't this phone fking 500$. Another complaint is the lack of wireless charging for the price, which I can understand. I use to recharge my wireless headphones using reverse charging with my phone, it's very convenient when you are out and don't have access to a charger.

Where is the "I'm not buying the OnePlus Open or any other foldable" option?

Some people really don't care about these gimmicky phones.

Pricey but its the best your getting. 2.8k max nits? 8+ Gen 2 with 16GB of RAM? 10-bit depth and LTPO panels? Not to mention the super cool cameras.

If you have the money and interest, you should get this. Ditch the Pixel Fold with G2. ZFold 5 is a good competitor but you cant pass up the LTPO3 panels vs Dynamic AMOLED. Open also had Dolby Vision!

for what it is ( a rebrand from some other chinese company that probably has another 2-3 mobile companies) the only thing it has got of any use is the camera setup. for the price no way in millions years thanks. i would prefer a fat slab ala s23++ with a slide out qwerty, now that would actually be useful and productive.

I will buy Oneplus Open ONLY if it has USD 500 price as worth as it is.

                                        Main reasons:
                                        - being a rebranded Oppo Find N (literally same phone)
                                        - dont have proper water resistant
                                        - has an ugly and cheap looking UI
                                        - has a not so popular brand (Samsung and Apple are both most popular brand)
                                        - lack of worldwide official store
                                        - being a first generation of Oneplus foldable (vs. 5th gen from Samsung)

I believe many people agree with me and will buy this phone for 500 USD. Above USD 500 price, better to buy phone with popular brand from Samsung or Apple.
