This is a move made out of necessity, and it will probably pay off. If BlackBerry had done this a few years ago after they purchased liveprofile they would have killed whatsapp, kik, and all other messaging apps out there( bbm is a well made messenger app),

Very smart thinking by Black-Berry to extend BBM to android. Either way they can not lose but they will have to reduce the cost of thier phones to remain in the market.

I just use BB for email. Others just additional. BB email easier than others.

Cross-platform is king at the present. Why do you think WP8 is crying for Instagram and the like.

They have either committed suicide or have a compelling feature that might just make people switch from whatsapp. If this is secure on Android, I would consider paying for it.

On the other hand this could boost BB sales.
Think of all the people who didnt buy a BB because their friends didnt have it so BBM was pointless.
Now that BBM will be cross platform people who want a Blackberry can get 1 and still be able to chat with friends who dont have a BB through BBM.

Its a clever move so that even if Blackberry keep falling and stop producing handsets they can still make some money from the 2 top selling OS. Although looking at it that way makes you think Blackberry are kinda 'glass half empty' people.

well maybe you didn't but others might have... all across facebook there are people critisizing blackberry for how slow they are, when they don't even realise that they have the oldest phone... now most of them are upgrading to the Z10/Q10 with the hope of it being faster than their old phone... but since BBM will be "free" on other plataforms, what's the point in buying a BB at all?...all i'm saying is that being "free" will result into a faster death for BB...

Bold move from bb but its the best move . Taking bbm to android and iphone will broaden their platform making more money . Bbm will erase whatsapp when it goes to non bb handsets . Now all that's missing is bis on android and iphone . Free browsing downloading online gaming for a subscription fee will be the cherry on the cake . All the good from bb with out the bad like low hardware
