You can't kill whatsapp/imessage.

If the BBM that will be made for Android N iOS N hopefully windows phone later will be as good as the BBM in the BB legacy device, Don't you people think this will also kill WHATSAPP N BB hard wear sales, Cos let's face it BBM is superior to whatsapp N whatsapp is d most popular cross platform Messenger.

If it is a paid app, then there is a good probability that they would make more money from selling BBM to everyone versus selling blackberries and subscriptions.

RIM must have thought it over, they probably want to risk it all, but if ios and android has over 70% of the of the world mobile users,.. it is going to be profitable for RIM since I know BBM wont be a free messaging app with run on any platform, I anticipate a charge and user id tied to an email account like the one used on Blackberry ID

Since 2010, I always hear, BlackBerry will die soon, BB Is already dead....on arrival, falling down etc. But still they manage to upgrade their OS (BB10) and Blackberry is still alive and kicking as of to date. No one knows exaclty what their long term plan is.

Steve, 14 May 2013Hope this doesn't turnout to be a self destruct strategy for RIMwhat do you think?... more than half of the population that still buys blackberries are because of bbm...(some not)but when they figure out that they can have bbm while no longer need to pay for a blackberry... Blackberry smartphone will finally die.

I think it's a smart move. Similar to what Microsoft did to IBM. They were never that good with hardware anyway. Now if they can bring more security features into Android, that would be really great.
