darn, if only they made the camera to 5mp.. and i bet the video recording is good and will be saved to mp4 format.. cool.. that touch screen phone deserves to the Nseries line UP.. but cool, because we seen music phones handling touch interfice like the ones in sony ericsson (w960)

Anonymous, 25 Sep 2008It was about time, they finally build a touchscreen phone, ... moreI dont believe that 90% of the phones will be touchscreen. Touchscreens are way too overrated at this moment. Personally I dont like them too much ... too hard/not ergonomic to operate in real life situations (on the street, in the car, etc). They are good when you're sitting. Maybe touchscreen will be an extra option so you can use touch or buttons. A few years ago, after Matrix, some though in a few years all the phones will be clamshells :)

And the Google phone is too ugly to have any serious success :) (but I like the ideea of a real QWERTY). If 5800 would have a slider with a real QWERTY keyboard ... now that would be really interesting!

Anonymous, 25 Sep 2008I don't understand why people like to compare iphone in ter... moreIf every third american has an iPhone does not mean every third citizen of this world has an iPhone :) Nokia sales in a weekend more than Apple in a few months. Maybe you have friends who love iPhone and you think everybody does ... but believe me ... not in Europe or other parts of the world. People here (EU) dont just pay $70/month for a phone plan the same way they dont buy cars with 5 liter motors who consume four times the amount of gas of a european/asian car. The US market is very different from the rest of the world ... believe me, here only a few care about Apple and the iPhone (about 5-10% have any interest on Apple and only small part of them buy - maybe except UK who have a bigger influence from US). I work in IT and I dont know anyone owning an Apple laptop, just one person having an iPod and two having iPhones (unlocked, of course). I am sure that seems very strange for you, but that is the reality over here. 70% use a Nokia here, and the rest use Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, etc. Apple is probably the least sold brand here (on a pair with Vertu probably :) ). Also, only the Nokia factory opened 8 months ago 20 km away from me made more phones than Apple ever sold. And to make things clear, a mobile data plan, unlimited in time (but with 500 MB trafic) is about $5 here. So almost nobody wants to spend $70 for an iPhone dedicated data plan. If they decide to buy an iPhone, they unlock it and use a cheap data plan.

Bakhti, 24 Sep 2008I think this phone will kick ass. Iphone is a pretty good p... moreI don't understand why people like to compare iphone in terms of "features" with all the others....

To most techky guys in various phone forums, specs for iphone is really worth only US$200.

Though anyone ever think about why / how iphone is so successful that every 3 person has one...with such relatively low end spec?

Guess you can find out the answer from your better half....as in the city I live in, iphone with any contract service would cost more than an N95 (if not N96).

Though can N95/N96 ever outsell iphone? I doubt so.

That means packing in all the specs available into a phone doesn't speak for everyone....even for those who can afford.

As for the US market, if 5800 cost USD$400, I still doubt its success, as those who have $400 to spend in US would probably spend the same $ on other things...such as better tires for their cars!

Will you get an 5800 in "2 years"? God knows what will happen in 2 years in the mobile world...though quite likely 5800 will be discontinued by then.

Of course, based on the "pleasant experience" from our 7710 users here, "wait" is a good word to describe...

                    The device features:
                    -3.2" display touchscreen
-3.2 megapixel camera (Led flash), video recording VGA 30fps

It was about time, they finally build a touchscreen phone, wow! Hope they will announced more than one new touchscreen because the competition already have better touchscreen than the 5800 Tube (HTC HD, New Android OS - G1, Iphone, even Samsung and LG)

In 5 years almost 90% of all the cell phone in the market will be touchscreen, so Nokia better adjust themselves!!!

the "market leader" with 4 times the sales (if not more R&D) resources took exactly "4 years" to release a touchscreen 3G phone over its comeptitors.

                          4 years, yeah!

nokia is testing their Touchscreen ph with this mid range first. Thats gd idea. bcoz there will sure be weaknesses and issues since it is first touch screen for them. So, its the right move. I have n96 now, so within 2 years time, when high end touch UI nokia available (with lots of 3rd party applications too), then I will buy it. =)

                                  Battery size? BP4L 1500mAh please!

Processor? ARM Cortex (T3xxx) Dual Core CPU or at the very least faster than current ones please!
Otherwise the 640x360 display will slow things down just like the E90 800 pixel wide screen. No way as fast as N95, N82 etc.

Does the Touch Screen have any feedback? I remember reading Nokia was trialling some technology which was better than haptic feedback.

What type of camera flash if any?

I think I'll buy this but Nokia will probably release a high end XpressMedia (Tube) shortly after this.

looks cool, but Symbian sucks! the worst OS at the moment. no future. 2-3 years and will be dead.
