But they plan to keep these phones for a long, long time - longer than before.

I am from Slovakia we have 5G for several years and still some battles in this game i cant connect faster than opponent no matter what.
And on the other hands sometimes happens game drops for me or enemy player and when he recconect either me or him will win by defeating all heroes on batlefield.
But all i wanted to say apps evolving they are no longger the same as they were before.
Same goes for comouter games and many else.
For example millions of people plays world of tanks or League of Legends a game that is like 15 years old. Computers back then had 100% smooth experience nowdays even a 5 years old machines will be struggling with game. All depends on performance but while 15 years ago 1-2GB of ram were enough nowdays 8gb is minimum requirement.

Thats a great point as well, applications and OS gets more bloated with time do these resources get taxed harder in the long term. But a lot of it also comes down to bad ram management on older versions of the OS which a really old phone may be stuck with. Like on my Nord the 8 GB of ram doesnt hold apps in the background most of the time. Like my YouTube app would die if i just returned from a long call. So if these things bug you then definitely you should upgrade. Another thing, modem speed really helps if your connection supports such speeds, which if it does then it can really elevate the experience.

"That’s a testament to phone companies building hardware that will last for years, even in the fast-moving world of technology"
No, it just shows there's no point in upgrading - companies have switched over from revolutionary tech upgrades to complete marketing BS: more cores, more HZ, more ram, more pixels, higher screen resolution, "larger" (longer) screens, no buttons, no headphone jack... did it improve user experience? Yes, but only marginally, while sacrificing usability (buttons and headphone jack being two biggest victims, IMO).

We upgrade phones not because they break, but because new ones have revolutionary features we want very much. If there are no new awesome features, why waste money on upgrading?

m still using m51 without update am on android 10

In my opinion, companies are unethical if they want you to upgrade phones in 2 years.

Its ok if customers upgrade quicker, but by the system, the companies should be ready to offer a 6 year product minimum, or they should be branded enemies of the environment.

I also know and sure future phones gets a lot better hardware also more lasting but phones of nowdays even with top notch specs are unable to run latest games as smooth as they could when the device were brand new.
In other words game can evolve by updates.
For example i am playing clash of lords since 2014. Back then my Lenovo Vibeshot with just SD615 3G ram and 32GB of internal storage this phone for 350 bucks were great for playing this game it wasnt 100% smooth experience but let say 80%. Nowdays game evolved so much that even phones with 6GB ram have 70% smoothness on this game. Like my previous Xiaomi Mi 11 lite 5G. Now i am rocking Motorola edge 40 pro with SD 8 gen 2 12GB ram stock android and 256GB disk space. The whole battling now is about who have faster internet and connects to the battle faster. Litterary nothing else matters now which s bad. But still play this game for 9 years.

I hope all Android OEMs will follow Apple's 7-8 years of OS software update cycle or at least they make it 3-5 years like that on OnePlus and Samsung phones. As not so rich users like us treasure are hard earned money to a phone that's mostly bang for the buck. For me it's 3-4 years to change a phone lol

I cant really play a heavy game on this thing without either killing it or just it getting hot and slow. But with time hardware is getting more futureproof, let us see what it has in store for us 5 years down the line. I am looking forward to the releases in the next two years so I can upgrade to a good device.

shamesung, 06 Nov 2023The camera is really, really, really bad on LG Q6. What are... moreSure, new cameras provide incremental advantage in terms of pixel density, highlights, saturation and so on. But comparing the pics I've snapped in the past decade, newer cameras don't make much difference in terms of pixel free representation. Even photos from older 2MP cameras look good on a TV screen. If needed, there are good AI software to enhance those images. Then why bother taking HD photos and storing them in large files.

Love my Motorola G100 despite the flack many have had with 5g not working on it. The only thing that I greatly dislike is the short software update life Motorola gave it and how poorly they handle peoples complaints or lack of trying to fix issues for years. However that's a company problem not the phone.

Daily driver of an a52s for around 2 years at this point. Planned on getting a new phone every 2 years because the improvements for the midrange phones were significant. Now, there is little performance improvement with the A54 (the A53 was also slower) and both phones lack a headphone jack, which is why I bought an a52s over an S20 FE. The A54 also has a worse design imo. I keep the battery at 75% max and charge when it reaches 60% or lower, and the battery life is still pretty much flawless. I am running out of space on my 128GB micro sd card, so I plan on upgrading to a 512GB memory card soon. I use wireless earbuds, but also use the headphone jack every day. Great phone.

I have a 3 year old Samsung Galaxy A71, running Android 13 and have one more year of security updates. I set the phone to charge only to 85% and don't let it get below 40% before charging. Battery is still very good, the camera has improved with updates, phone over all is working better than when I first got it. I think that's because of Android 13 and One UI 5.1. I'm going to see how long I can make it last because the longer I wait the better midrange phones will be. I paid $330 for this phone, and a replacement would cost $500
