I'm on LG Q6 for 3 years, with screen free of holes, pills and teabags. No plans to get a phone with a hole in screen.

We still have the iPhone 7 plus which we've been using since the last 7 years.

Hardware-wise phones can easily last 5-6 years, although battery will reduce after four years. The issue is software - now a days in two years the updates stop and your phone is likely missing a newer better UI.
My first phone was Nokia 6230i which i kept for 5 years. Back then software did not make much leaps so i was not missing anything by keeping the phone. But now i must switch every two years to enjoy latest Android and its features. That is why specs, hardware have now less importance and i buy midrangers which i can replace every two-three years.

There has never been reason to buy phone... moreFor my business, it is very crucial to throw away phones in a rotation of every week or two - We buy a lot of Nokia Android Go and 110 phones on prepaid for our employees out there and throw them away to protect us from being compromised, having a phone with too much information and being caught with it could seriously destroy the entire operation and have people in serious trouble

With samsung's 4(4+5) OS Update,
Xiaomi's "PROMISE" to provide 4(4+5) OS update, Google's "PROMISE" with 7 OS update and after market custom ROM support.
Maybe it's time to buy phone with more believable track record of delivering software support like samsung, and use the phone for another 10 years.
Then we can see in 2033 if xiaomi or google really deliver their promises or not.

And for iPhone users, their phone keep working as it should so they keep using it, unless it didn't and so they upgrade unlike android users who mostly can't afford android flagship phones and hence can't afford either Xbox or PlayStation. So the phone is their only gaming device.
That's why in Android there are lots of cheap phones with flagship chip.

I am still using my Galaxy Note 9 even after 5 years and I have no intention to upgrade as I know it will still work for one more year. The only downgrade of having old phone is lack of software support and apps support. Battery life has been degraded but I have changed the battery twice so I am ok with its life as long as the phone is still working.
