Weekly poll results: most people prefer older flagship chipsets

19 November 2023
Not that they wouldn't get the cutting edge chip if the price is right, but more often than not it isn't. Mid-range chips have their fans too.

I start using mobile since 2012 and also at same time i started visiting gsmarena.
Since then i used 4 mobile which costed me total around 400 USD.
I used 2G to 4G network and all costed me total around 400 USD.
In 11 years i spent 800 USD for my mobile usage (I am only including mobile handset cost + mobile bill).
I use my phone for daily usage like communication, banking, shopping, travelling, map, music, movie and very little strategy based online game some time.

It might be because of being one of the earliest Android phones with a non-removable lithium polymer battery

They problém is that gsmarena u SHOULD COULD MUST drop stupidest 2 words combination "miiiid rraaangee".. Since when snap gen 1 is miiiidd raaaangee?
Can u stop this two SH!TTY words? They are ABSOLUTELY not miiiiidd raaaangeee

The reason why a good chipset matters is doing basic stuff like running the OS that manages to get more demanding every year while barely doing anything new...

they keep rebranding older chip yknaw,
only the uninformed and naive would fall for such simple trick

so, it's better to use last year high-end chip for mid-low phone rather than this year mid-low chip for mid-low phone

            Example,
it's better to use G99 for Redmi Note 12 4G rather than SD685 for Redmi Note 12 4G

I think the top-of-the-line Qualcomm chipset since the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with its powerful 4 A73 performance cores with UFS 2.x and LPDDR4X RAM combination is the bare minimum, at least for me, as it's still able to keep some tasks well while already being dated. My XZ Premium as secondary devices proves it, as it's still sufficient to keep with some tasks six years after its launch (my main is Xperia 1 II with Qualcomm SD865, UFS 3.0, and 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM)

this article is kinda biased ... the poll should ask for efficient chipset vs power hungry chipset

Poco, 20 Nov 20238gen3 GPU is less efficient than 888 gpuIts more efficient than 8 gen 2 at same power but they not capped at 8w like 8 gen 2 goes further out to 12w for slight performance gain

Quality + Update + Price = My choice

Companies ask for latest top quality flagship SoC then give me Snapdragon 810, shamelessly.
Sell iPhone 15 pro max with a SoC that needs patch in order not to be Snapdragon 810.
                      I want a SoC of previous years which are more than capable for me;
No Problem, Latest handset with outdated capable flagship and we charge you same as latest flagship SoC + a new feature specifically for you. 1 to 2 years of less Update. Enjoy picking your pocket, yourself. Life is physics, not mathematics. In reality go to sub zero condition and tell yourself there is no cold, there is lack of heat. When you freezed out, after 20,000 years they find you untouched and say he/she suffered from lack of heat.

Kind of of an expected result. Because the best price/performance devices are all using 1-3 year old Snapdragon 8 series chips, like 888 and the 8 Gen 1
